No, you didn’t accidentally stumble onto the Cosmo Web site. The compatibility we’re talking about is between Apple’s MacBook models and Digidesign’s Pro Tools LE v7.1.1 for Intel-based Macs – in particular the USB connections. The following important compatibility updates and revisions have been added to the Digidesign Web site:
- Pro Tools LE 7 with Apple MacBook: Use of Mbox, Mbox 2 or other USB audio devices on the rear USB port is not advised because it may cause audio interrupts and/or dropped samples. There are also two USB ports on the left side of the MacBook. However, due to internal USB architecture issues on the MacBook, use of Digidesign, M-Audio, or other third-party USB audio devices is supported only on the front USB port only (this is the port farthest away from the screen). However, the use of an iLok on the rear port has been qualified and is fully supported.
- Pro Tools LE 7 with Apple MacBook Pro: Use of Mbox, Mbox 2 or other USB audio devices on the right-hand USB port is not recommended. The 15″ MacBook Pro models have one USB port on the left side and one USB port on the right side, while the 17″ MacBook Pro models have two USB ports on the left side and one USB port on the right side. Due to internal USB architecture issues on the MacBook Pro, use of Digidesign, M-Audio, or third-party USB audio devices is supported only on the left-hand USB ports (the port or ports next to the power adapter cable. Use of such devices on the right-hand USB port is not advised as it may cause audio interrupts and/or dropped samples. However, the use of an iLok on the right-hand port has been qualified and is fully supported.
