Sony is pretty much the undisputed king of the mini disk recorders, and they are certainly the undisputed kings of portable players so when they come out with a new portable mini disk recorder everyone takes note. The MZR70 is the world’s smallest mini disk recorder. In fact, it’s hardly any bigger than the media itself. And it’s no bare bones unit. It comes with digital input (cable included) complete with sample rate conversion, as well as an all new smart remote control.
Chicken Systems (man, where do these names come from?) have released what they claim is the ultimate sampler converter. The upcoming version 2 release of their Translator software allegedly can translate from any major format to any other major format. And by major they don’t just mean three or four brands, the list posted at their site is pretty comprehensive, and includes brands that are traditionally hard to get in and out of such as EMU. Currently the software is only available for PC, but Mac versions are promised.
Will you be attending summer NAMM? If so, stop by and see us at booth #329. We’ll be giving away our famed Studio Tool Kit. It includes an audio reference/test CD, a shortcut guide for special computer and MIDI functions, and a hard copy on CD ROM of every issue of inSync (including all Tech Tips and WFTD), plus a ton of other goodies. Also, we are always looking for qualified people to join our team. If you will be in the Nashville area the weekend of NAMM (July 22) we would love to meet with you. We will be conducting interviews off site (so you don’t have to get into the show) for anyone interested. Please contact us at Careers@sweetwater.com to make an appointment.
