Chase

In the audio/video industry the word “chase” is used to illustrate a machine synchronizing itself (slaving to) another machine or controller. The slave machine must “chase” the master machine in order to become and stay synchronized with it. Specifically, when machines are working to lock up to a master they are said to be chasing. However, in the analog world of traditional synchronization they are still chasing even after they are “locked.” Keeping machines synchronized requires constant updating and speed adjustments from the slave machine.
