Abbreviation for Consultative Committee for International Radio. The CCIR is a standards body responsible for many of our audio and video standards over the years. They are possibly most known for defining the 625 line 25 frames per second TV standard used in many parts of the world (not the U.S.), but they have also introduced many measurement standards that are adhered to throughout the pro audio community. More recently the CCIR has been combined with the International Telegraph and Telephone Consultative Committee to form the ITU-T (International Telecommunication Union – Telecommunication Union Standardization Bureau).
