We’ve got good news and … oh wait, there’s no bad news. See, those nice folks at Cakewalk have just announced a free 5.2 update for registered users of SONAR 5. This update is for both 32-bit and native x64 versions of SONAR 5 Producer Edition and SONAR 5 Studio Edition and Cakewalk gives the release date as early April, which means it should be available as a free download from Cakewalk’s site shortly. New features and bug fixes include:
- VST 2.4 support, allowing for 64-bit double-precision audio quality when using VST effects and instruments, along with compatibility with Windows XP Professional x64 Edition.
- This update also addresses issues reported by customers including VST automation, SONAR’s Piano Roll and Inline Piano Roll, and Perfect Space.
- Support for MIDI output data from VSTi plug-ins.
- Support for Waves VST plug-ins (Waves DirectX plug-ins have always been supported).
- Allows for up to 4,096 MIDI channels to any ReWire device (which is up from just 16).
- Added new extensions to SONAR’s Control Surface capabilities allowing Control Surfaces to receive multi-channel metering information and to get or set punch states.
