The Blu-ray Disc Association (aka BDA) has announced that it will unveil specific launch plans for marketing and distribution of Blu-ray at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January. Blu-ray is a new high-capacity DVD format supported by Disney, 20th Century Fox, Sony, Pioneer, and Panasonic. At a recent press briefing, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE) announced that authoring has already been completed on the very first Blu-ray Disc to contain a full-length, high-definition feature film. “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle” was compressed and authored in the MPEG-2 high-definition standard (1920 x 1080) by Sony Pictures’ Digital Authoring Center (DAC). These discs are now being shipped to hardware companies for player testing on the new Blu-ray compatible players.
