Batter Head

Also known as the “top head.” The batter head is the drum head that is struck by the drummer/drum sticks, as opposed to the second head, which is often mounted to the bottom or non-playing side of the drum to increase resonance. The batter head may be made from different materials or have different coatings than the resonant head.
