Generally to make a copy of data and to store the copy on an additional medium for safekeeping. This copy is called a “back up.” Backing up is extremely important to safeguard against unexpected events. Backup media is generally chosen by the amount of storage that is necessary. In other words, a floppy disk or CDRW might be just fine for baking up text file documents, where digital audio and video might necessitate media with larger capacities such as DVD, DAT, DLT or other optical and tape-based media.
