In music, a way for musicians to express themselves through performance nuances and/or embellishments. Articulation is driven in part by written marks from the composer, but can also be influenced by the music director or individual performer discretion. Slurs, legato, staccato, forms of “tonguing” and “bowing” can all influence Articulation. Good Articulation can also influence good intonation in many forms of music performance. Good, bad and different types of Articulation exists in all styles of music, but is more apparent, or conscious in the areas of both Jazz and Classical forms of music. Articulation, stylistically speaking, is very difficult to emulate with sample libraries.
