API has announced a new stereo bus compressor that has a special “thrust” control to help provide “chest thumping bass.” There are several other very powerful features, including an “old” mode, which uses the “feedback” type of compression found in the API 525 and the Fairchild 600 series, etc. The “New” style uses a VCA modulated by an RMS detector, much like many of the dbx and SSL boxes.
