It’s time for the June WSOTM (Web Site of the Month). This month’s site is Music in Progress. MP3 sites are everywhere, and while their intent is often to circumvent the commercial world they all too often find themselves mired in the same things they speak out against. Music in Progress is one of many sites that are commercial free and stand on their own merits. This one was picked over the others because it was the first place your inSync editor heard the hilarious rendition of Stayin’ Alive as done by what sounds like (and is claimed to be) Ozzie Osbourne.
There’s an interesting (though short) interview with composer Rick Marvin on the MOTU Web site about the making of the blockbuster movie U571. He describes some of how he integrates Digital Performer with the orchestra for scoring, and how he used it to drive the orchestra on the dub stage.
