After just being shown at NAMM last month the Yamaha CDR-1000 CD recorder is already here in stock. It’s fully compatible with professional CDR and CD-RW media, and has all the pro features required by discerning users. Most notable is the inclusion of Apogee’s UV22 super CD 16-bit encoding, which is arguably the very best sounding algorithm available for dithering 20 and 24-bit signals down to 16 bits.
Steinberg has launched the Cubase Network with what it calls the first publicly available Internet Recording Studios where musicians and audio professionals can meet on line to collaborate and produce original audio from anywhere in the world. The system is based on the media collaboration technology of Rocket Network, recently in the news as Digidesign took a 20 percent stake in the company and with a collaboration deal with Euphonix.
Speaking of Steinberg, they now have ASIO drivers that work with the new Digi 001 system. These drivers allow the Digidesign hardware interface to be used as a front end for your ASIO compatible software such as Cubase VST. These particular ASIO drivers are for the Macintosh platform only. They have yet to announce any plans for a PC version.
