A function or circuit found in some amplifiers for the purpose of protecting the output devices in the event the net load impedance drops below acceptable levels. Current limiting circuits vary significantly in complexity and overall effectiveness, but in general their purpose is always to protect from over current situations without having to cut the signal off altogether like a circuit breaker or fuse would do. This circuit is also sometimes known as a crowbar circuit.
