Longhorn Guitar

From roughly 1958 to 1969, the Danelectro company built inexpensive six-string electric guitars and basses in which the body was truncated and the upper and lower projections left by the cutaways (often called “horns”) are specifically designed to resemble the actual horns of a Texas longhorn steer. It makes for quite a visual statement, particularly when combined with Danelectro’s “lipstick” pickups. The original Danelectro line was purchased by MCA in 1969 and subsequently shut down. However, the Danelectro brand was purchased in 1998 and there have been several retro models built since then, including the Longhorn Bass.
