From Sweetwater’s Service Department – A common complaint recently from wireless mic owners: "My wireless output seems distorted after last week’s gigs, and the batteries, mic, wires and everything else checked out okay…"
There’s a good chance that the unit’s output filter caps were blown from phantom power being applied through the mic inputs on the mixing board that you had this system plugged into. Most of these filter caps are rated at 25 to 35 volts and don’t like it when you put 48 volts on them. If you have a repair tech who knows what he’s doing, it will be fairly obvious to him which ones are blown – they usually show physical signs of damage. If not, it might be time to send it in for service… and then go have a nice little chat with your sound engineer about his indiscriminate use of phantom power!
