If you have binding post connections on your speakers and are using dual banana jacks, it’s a good idea to always tin the leads of your speaker wires before inserting them into the banana jacks. This does three things: It increases the contact surface between the wire and the jack post, and secondly it keeps any stray wire strands from popping out and touching similar strands from the other post. These errant strands often degrade the signal to the speaker, and can literally drive you crazy tracking down intermittent noises. The third thing tinning the leads does? It makes it easier to get the stupid speaker wire into the little hole on the banana plug…
