Erratic Data From Your Modulation or Pitch Wheel?

Getting errant and/or erratic data from your modulation or pitch wheel? This is one we hear frequently. The most common problem is a dirty pot (see WFTD archive potentiometer). The solution is to spray some cleaner (such as Cramolin) into the pot and then rotate it back and forth to clean the contacts. As these contacts get older and have more cleaner on them all the time they will begin to respond less to cleaning and eventually have to be replaced. The other problem we’ve seen on rare occasions is that the little set screw that holds the plastic pitch knob or wheel to the pot shaft gets loose. When this happens the pitch wheel can slip around on the pot shaft some during use and cause erratic data. Tightening this small screw will clean up that problem.
