Our technical support department has had several calls recently from VS880, VS1680, K2000, and Akai S6000 owners that are having problems getting a zip drive to function with their gear. Please remember that there are a couple of different types of Zip drives: SCSI and Parallel port versions. They look the same but the Parallel version will not work correctly with the above listed devices. Chances are if you get the Zip from one of the larger appliance/computer stores (ex: Best Buy, HH Greg, Circuit City, CompUSA) it will be a parallel drive, which is the wrong type. The parallel drives are popular among PC users so that’s why they’re in all the consumer electronics stores.
If you plug a Parallel zip into the 1680 the Roland will power up with a blank blue screen and if you leave the drive on you can FRY the SCSI circuit on the VS! Be careful out there folks. Make sure you know what you are hooking up to what.
