Correction to our recent Tech Tip on getting Pro Tools to be the master and send SMPTE, via a MOTU MTP/AV, to other devices. This used to be a rather convoluted process, then it got easier, and now it’s REALLY easy. Thanks to the astute and kind readers for helping us get this one right.
In Pro Tools, all you have to do is set it in the Session Setup Window to output MTC/LTC/SMPTE via the serial port that your interface is connected to. Then, set the MTP A/V to lock to LTC (LTC QuickLok is handy for this), and let ‘er rip. LTC will appear at the MTP A/V’s TC output.
Another reader opines that the most stable source of SMPTE results from recording the LTC to a track in Pro Tools and slaving the MTP to that time code. Now that Pro Tools does about a gazillion tracks this may not be a bad idea for those who have the output available.
