Sweetwater Sales Engineer, Nika Aldrich, offers additional helpful advice relating to our recent tip on headphone extension cables (see TTOTD 5/17/2002).
I have adapted my headphones to XLR connectors on both ends by making short TRS -> XLRM and TRSF -> XLRF cables. Then I use standard XLR cable to extend the headphones. This is handy because XLR cables are pretty common in most studios at various lengths. Many studios use XLR cables for headphone busses at various points in their signal chains, whether from a wall jack to a distro box or as extenders or from distro box to distro box. If you’re not comfortable building these adapters yourself they are readily available from places like Sweetwater.
