“Why do I keep getting DAE -9060 errors while recording to my Mac FireWire drive?”
Digidesign has seen positive results with the drives with the Oxford 911 chipset and a 7200 RPM or faster spindle speed. So, your first step when purchasing a FireWire drive is to make sure that these two criteria are met. Next, FireWire drives should be initialized with the Finder’s “Erase Disk” function to install the Apple FireWire drivers.
To initialize your FireWire drive:
1.) Back up all the contents of your drive to another storage device.
2.) Select the drive in the finder and go to Special > Erase Disk.
3.) After the initialization is complete, copy your files back on to the FireWire drive. If there was software installed that came with the drive (i.e. Hard Disk Speed Tools), remove the software and disable the extensions associated with the software.
