Sometimes your Mac computer is located several feet away from – or in a separate room from – your keyboard and display. That can make it difficult to know whether your CD/DVD tray is open or closed. Here’s a tip: You can place an “Eject ” icon in the menu bar on a Mac running OS X Tiger or Panther to open the CD door with your mouse. Simply follow these steps:
- Double-click the Macintosh HD icon
- Open the System Folder
- Within the System Folder, open the Library folder
- Open the CoreServices folder
- Open Menu Extras
- Open the file named “Eject.menu”
The icon will appear at the top right of your display. It’s smart, too – mouse over it and it will tell you the name of the disc that’s currently in the drive.
