24/96

This is audio industry jargon. The phrase 24/96 is our current shorthand way of expressing digital audio data with a bit depth of 24 bits and a sample rate of 96kHz. The term has become widely used in the industry in part because the emerging DVD standard supports it and it’s likely to be the minimum standard for digital audio sometime in the future. For this and other reasons, many equipment manufacturers are making digital equipment that is capable of 24/96 recording. Currently, many other sample rates and bit depths are in use, but 24/96 is being positioned by some companies as the “new” standard for audio in the new millennium.
