Radikal Technologies SAC 8X

The SAC-8X fader expansion is the perfect way to expand the number of simultaneous faders available on an SAC-2.2 system. It shares the SAC 2.2’s quality construction and top of the line components with eight (8) motorized touch-sensitive faders, eight (8) encoders and two (2) large 2×40 displays. Depending on how the music software handles expansion support, the SAC-8X can be linked to the SAC-2.2, effectively making a 16-fader, 20-encoder unit that stays locked during bank switches and plug-in editing. Alternatively, an SAC-8X can be used as a separate, but still connected unit. In this way, you can control software with the SAC-8X that is totally independent from the software being controlled on the SAC-2.2. The total number of SAC-8Xs that can be linked depends on the host software with no limits imposed by the hardware.

In fact, the coolest new feature of the SAC-2.2 is that you can control several different programs simultaneously, and switch between them in real-time. The SAC-2.2 will automatically update itself with the correct operating mode and parameter settings as you switch between programs! And in addition, this feature is networkable, meaning it will allow you to control different programs on different computers on your network! Got a great Mac-based sequencer and an awesome PC-based sampler? No problem. One SAC-2.2 integrated into your network means you can control them both at the same time, without the need to re-configure and re-boot!

TL Audio Ivory Series

TL Audio showed a new line of studio processors dubbed the Ivory 2 Series. Delivering studio-grade valve tube technology to the masses, the Ivory 2 series is well constructed and has a hint of vintage look and vibe. Designed for every day studio needs, the Ivory 2 series will add just the right amount of warmth to the digital personal and project studio.

5051: MONO VALVE PROCESSOR

This single channel voice processor provides a great front end for any system by offering a combined preamp, compressor, EQ and noise gate all in one easy-to-use package.

5021: DUAL VALVE COMPRESSOR

Valve compression is highly sought-after in today’s top recordings and is an essential tool for today’s recording engineer. The Ivory 5021 provides two channels of hard and soft knee modes, four attack and release times and an optical gate.

5050: MONO VALVE PREAMP AND COMPRESSOR

The Ivory 5050 delivers the winning combination of a mic/line/instrument preamp and mono compressor. Features include a 30dB pad, hard/soft knee compression mode and a fully balanced line output.

5001: QUAD VALVE PREAMP

The 5001 preamp offers four (4) top quality valve mic preamps in a single 2U package, and boasts extra features including a discrete mic preamp stage, 30dB pad and instrument DI inputs. Separate input and output level controls allow the valve stages to be driven harder if necessary for increased warmth, while still allowing the overall output to be regulated.

5013: DUAL VALVE EQUALIZER

The 5013 is a two channel, four-band parametric EQ with variable Q. Additional features include a peaking/shelving option on both LF and HF bands plus a “Fat” contour switch on both channels. The 50143 employs two valve stages per channel for warmth and character.

Glyph Technologies Trip2

After many years of success with the original Trip storage systems, Glyph showed the much-anticipated Trip2. Please take note, this is NOT just another drive system, and it certainly goes way beyond any off-the-shelf storage solutions we have ever seen. For the very best performance, reliability and support, anyone recording using a computer DAW needs to seriously consider Glyph’s newest storage systems. Why? The Trip2 is a high performance FireWire solution that has been designed to handle the rigors of today’s high-resolution digital audio recording. Much like the original Trip systems, the Trip2 comes in various configurations of hot-swap bays and drives that deliver convenience, flexibility and expansion. The model that will ship first features six (6) bays, two (2) 120GB drives, a DVD-RW drive and an AIT-1 drive. We were able to see this very configuration in action and it was impressive to say the least. The Trip2 manhandled 24 tracks of a 24-bit 192kHz Pro Tools session across two drives. Oh, and did we mention that playback consisted of three (3) edits/second, and that it ran for nearly an hour? No hick-ups, pauses or problems of any sort. Yes, the performance of the next generation system is outstanding, but there’s more under the hood that’s worth mentioning. For one thing, the Trip2 is extremely quiet. We were in a very quiet room at the time and even though the Trip2 employs ten (10) fans, there was only a slight hum that emanated from the unit when it was turned on and this was with the lid off so we could see inside. Another fantastic feature that you simply can’t find on other pro audio storage systems is Glyph’s implementation of S.M.A.R.T. (Self Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) that exists on their current take-anywhere hard drive system the Companion. While S.M.A.R.T. has been around for over ten years, Glyph is the first manufacturer to implement and take advantage of its resources in our industry. S.M.A.R.T. continually evaluates the health of the hard drive and upon eminent catastrophic failure of said hard drive it will send a message to your computer screen giving you time to shut down your session, turn your hard drive off and BACK IT UP! Additionally, the Trip2 employs the same QuietMetal found on the Companion that assists noise reduction and they use reliable Teflon ribbon cabling for high-quality signal transmissions. The Trip2 family will eventually ship in one, two, four and six (and rumors of more) bay solutions.

Radikal Technolgies SAC-M5/3

Radikal has seen a great deal of success with the SAC DAW controller. Expanding on this success, they showed the SAC-M5/3 here at AES. Essentially a monitor section, the SAC-M5/3 is designed to route stereo audio signals and to control your studio’s monitoring needs. Featuring ultra-clean, high-quality audio circuitry and bulletproof construction, Radikal sees the SAC-M5/3 as a must-need tool for project and home studios. It features five (5) selectable input sources, two (2) monitor busses, two (2) headphone amps, talkback button and built-in mic, multi-color LED for gain setting and more.

dbx DriveRack 260

Continuing the legacy of DriveRack Series is dbx’s DriveRack 260. The DriveRack 260 was designed with the purpose and vision of providing state-of-the-art signal processing, while utilizing a simple and intuitive user interface. This goal has been achieved by offering two independent channels of processing power with a linkable 28-Band Graphic Equalizer, industry-standard dbx stereo compressor module, feedback eliminator and the 120A Sub harmonic Synthesizer on the input, with a six channel output system that includes parametric EQs, PeakStopPlus limiters (to provide protection against speaker blowouts) and alignment delay. These features combined with the Wizard setup system and complete DriveWare GUI control represent a methodical design that is guaranteed to deliver optimal, all-inclusive processing in a completely scalable system.
