Mission-critical 8-channel Class A DI

The proprietary Class A direct injection circuit in Phoenix Audio's DRS Series mic preamps is so popular that the company has made it available in an 8-channel 1RU chassis, the N-8 DI. As electronic instrumentation has skyrocketed over the last decade or so, high-quality DIs have become mission-critical. Whether you rock an elaborate synth rig, laptops, loop-stations, or just want a great-sounding DI for tracking your electric bass, the N-8 DI is an ideal choice. With its unique gain architecture, Phoenix Audio's Nice DI technology handily delivers a broad tonal palette, elevating direct signals to the level of artistry we have accorded working with mic signals.

Hi-fidelity transformerless input stage

The Phoenix N-8 DI features a fully discrete Class A circuit design, handwired with mil-spec silver connections and clad in a rugged steel 1RU rackmount chassis. A transformerless 10 Mohm ultra-high impedance input stage preserves the tonal character of the source and delivers a clean, sturdy signal into the circuit without the treble loss or sluggish low-end characteristic of many inferior DI designs. With the N-8 DI, you'll delight to the punchy, full-bodied sounds required for the powerful, complex, and often bombastic sonic signature of modern music.

Masterful transformer-balanced output stage

Phoenix Audio couples their custom-wound DB694 output transformer to a fully discrete, proprietary DSOP-2 output amplifier, itself a direct descendant of the renowned TF1 amp that Phoenix chief designer David Rees developed as an upgrade for vintage Neve 80 Series console modules. Outperforming the TF1, the DSOP-2 represents a pinnacle of Class A output circuit design, offering a seamless tonal range from ultra-clean to gorgeously saturated. With its big iron and massive headroom, you can drive the DSOP-2 to taste. Crank it to elicit beautifully saturated tones; back off for a cleaner high-fidelity sound, or dial up any flavor in-between.

Incredible versatility

And because the N-8 DI accepts unbalanced line level and levels up to 0dBu, you can use it as a line-amp in the studio or on the road. Simply input any signal to enhance it with lush Class A tone. With an easy-recall stepped gain control on every channel, nailing your target sound is a cinch. Sweetwater engineers are finding the Phoenix Audio N-8 DI be superbly musical, versatile, and intuitive; able to breathe new life into any direct injected signal. We think you'll agree.

Reviews

I like it so much I'm getting another one!
This is built like a tank!
Knobs feel sturdy and are stepped...
Also ran a mono synth into it and the bounced to another ch. so I could go into a stereo insert on my board and have a matched summed mono pair.
Everything I have tried using for this purpose had differences in volume on the VU meter.
Going to get a second unit for the rest of my synth collection.
I have been using great pre amps like BURL - CAPI HEIDER - Chandler to name a few and the N8 holds its own..
So now i'm going to be able to free up all my pre amps for other duties.
Just get it if your considering it in the first place there isn't anything on the market that comes close...
