2 Channels of Boutique High-gain Tone

The Synergy ENGL Savage packed the boutique high-gain tones of its namesake into a 2-channel, all-tube module. Every ounce of the original Savage’s acclaimed tonal palette is accounted for, as is its famous touch response. Two Gain/Hi switches and a meticulously sculpted Contour switch give you even more sonic versatility. The tone of this module is dead on, but that’s no surprise — ENGL’s Horst Langer was involved in its creation from day one to ensure that it did his legendary amp justice. The Synergy ENGL Savage module is tailor-made for the direct-recording, lower-stage-volume, compact-and-portable guitar rigs that modern players demand.

Synergy Amplification

Merriam-Webster defines synergy as, "A mutually advantageous conjunction or compatibility of distinct business participants." With Synergy Amplification's combining of tube-amp talents that includes Dave Friedman (Friedman), Joe Morgan (Morgan), Steven Fryette (Fryette and VHT), Mike Soldano (Soldano), and Peter Diezel (Diezel), the name is a perfect fit. Each product is painstakingly crafted by these titans of the tube-amp world, ensuring every nuance of their legendary amplifiers is translated to your tone. For the most iconic tones in the most convenient package possible, Sweetwater is proud to offer you Synergy Amplification.

Synergy Amplification ENGL Savage Preamp Module Features:

  • 2-channel preamp module based on the ENGL Savage amplifier head
  • Mimics the original Savage’s acclaimed tonal palette and touch response

  • Easy to install and remove from Synergy preamp docks

Reviews

A REAL Savage
This is such an amazing preamp. I ordered this, the SLO and the Bogner Ecstasy. I run them in my Syn-2 through the effects loop of my...wait for it...Engl Savage 120! I am new to Synergy and my intention was to jump in, but use the Savage module to see how accurate the preamps are. The verdict? Dead-freaking-on! The Savage module sounds AND feels 100% like the actual Savage. There are a couple things to note, though: 1) preamp tubes. The preamp tubes are a bit different from a stock Savage, so there is a very negligible difference there, but easily remedied (only noticeable if you are playing a Savage through a Savage, lol). 2) The sag control. The sag control all the way off (counterclockwise) makes the module stiffer than the actual Savage. Bring it up around noon and they feel identical. Best gear purchase I've made since I bought my Savage 120 head 7 years ago. Shoutout to Andy R. for always being friendly and helpful!

THE module for tight metal
I grew up in the 80's and love the high gain sounds from Master of Puppets, Among the Living and so on. I have owned some Mesa amps over the years but, have been playing modded Marshall stuff for a long time. I was feeling nostalgic fior that tight metal sound from my youth. This one nails it and improved it.

I'm running through a SYN-2 with the 50/50 power amp into a 2x12 with vintage 30's. I usually play the Bogner Extasy and Friedman BEBB modules (they are very similar but also different). Now I have the dream amp, I can dial up clean, ideal Plexi and tight metal with a single foot switch!

This module is simple but, that's a positive because it's easy to dial in. The first channel is great for solos. It's more rounded and really sings with a neck pickup. The red channel is a monster! With the gain switch set to high and the gain set at 9:00 you hit Metallica at the nastiest and it's got a lot more on tap. Dialing it in took less than a minute and I played for over an hour until I was rudely interrupted. In my book, when I sit down and lose track of time because I'm in the zone, I have a great piece of gear. While you can get Mesa-like distortion it really has it's own sound going on. It's full and rich and doesn't suffer from a loose bottom end or a fizzy top end. It's like someone reached into my brain, took all the things I wanted in a high gain amp and stuck them in this module. Not to mention, it's a whole lot cheaper than the full sized amp.

It's so satisfying to have these options without having to endlessly cycle full amp heads and cabs. The Synergy system is the best piece of equipment I've bought in years and I love knowing that the actual amp designers are getting a piece of the pie (unlike modelers). I may have to get the Powerball module too.

Thank you Synergy, Engl, and Sweetwater. This is a dream rig!
Great thrash-modern metal tone
Very tight and dynamic tone out of this thing. The contour switch is really flexible at shaping the mids depending on what style you're into. You can even get some really nice clean/crunch tones using the low gain mode.

Full disclosure, I still prefer the SLO module over this for my playing, but when it comes to some higher gain/modern style playing, this is my go to. In particular, 7 string or low tuned guitars sound AMAZING with this pre-amp.

Synergy Engl Savage
Great sounding module easy to install . Tried the Engl Universal Audio plug-in that sounded good but you can't beat real tubes . 2 tubes in module and 1 in the tabletop docking station sounds thick and sweet
