Build Power, Accuracy, and Consistency with This Pint-sized Pad

With a playing surface of just an inch and a half, the Ahead Wicked Chops practice pad is guaranteed to increase your sticking accuracy and consistency over time. The rock-solid, weighted aircraft aluminum base mounts securely to any standard 8mm cymbal stand or pad stand. When we say securely, we mean it — the Wicked Chops doesn't budge when you play it. The soft gum rubber playing surface is quiet and accurate, approximating the rebound and response of a medium-tuned drumhead. And best of all, the Wicked Chops is unbelievably portable, easily stowing away in a stick bag or back pocket. If you're serious about your playing, you need chops: the Ahead Wicked Chops practice pad from Sweetwater.

Why buy a small practice pad?

We'll admit — the benefits of reducing this practice pad to the size of a jar of Carmex aren't clearly understood until you play it. But drummers at Sweetwater can attest that the advantages of practicing with the Wicked Chops practice pad are manifold. Wicked Chops users can expect to:

  • Gain power without increasing stick height
  • Build consistency from stroke to stroke
  • Enhance precision
  • Pull a more consistent tone out of any drum
  • Maximize speed and economy of motion

Reviews

Outstanding pad
I bought this on a whim. I have a lot of practice pads I use mostly for rudiments. I thought I had fairly precise stick control until I used this. It was humbling. Its now one of my two favorite pads.
It is very solid but small and light enough it fits in a pocket. I leave it on my practice stand when I fold it up and throw it in a suitcase. Its got a nice moderate rebound and feels like it will last for many years. Very high quality. Highly recommended for improving your wicked chops.
Music background: 55 years piano and organ, 35 years bass, 5 years drums. I play worship music for a church.
Best Training Aid Ever
I absolutely love this thing, and can't say enough about what it's done for me. I bought it over a year ago, and after some frustrating early attempts, I put it away and forgot about it. As an experienced player, I'd developed a ton of bad habits, and have spent the past several YEARS trying to fix some things. It's been a classic case of 2 steps up and 1 step back, and every time I thought I "had" it, I would backslide into old habits. In frustration, I pulled out the Wicked Chops and committed to working on it regularly.

It was slow going at first, and I really had to be patient and persistent. Singles, doubles, 8 on a hand, Stick Control page 1, all at slow tempos, and nothing fancy at first. Fast Forward a couple months and it suddenly started click. It has made WORLDS of difference in my hand technique. You HAVE to play relaxed and properly just to hit the darn thing. While I could barely do doubles on it before, now I can literally do the entire rudimental ritual with my eyes closed.

It translates to the kit without thinking about it. I am way more consistent in dynamics and where I strike the drum. Everything with my hands has improved. Color me convinced. I'm a believer, and can't recommend it enough to anyone who wants to improve their hand technique and precision.
