Commanding Sequential Power for Any Rig

Fully integrating the appearance and control of the Mk2 line, the KeyStep Mk2 takes Arturia's coveted sequencing formula to impressively modern heights. It all begins with a familiar 32-note Slimkey keybed, complete with velocity sensitivity and aftertouch for maximum sonic expressivity. The KeyStep's notable sequencer and arpeggiator engines remain intact, albeit loaded with one-touch mutation tools, Chord and Scale play modes, and 16 arpeggiation modes that offer more versatile melodic foundations than ever before. Sweetwater producers were quick to note the addition of the Mk2 series’ onboard OLED display and push encoder configuration, making the KeyStep's profound polyphonic sequencing tools even easier to manage on any stage. Finished with an accommodating arsenal of connectivity points, including USB-C MIDI, MIDI DIN In/Out, CV/Gate Out, and Sync I/O connections, rest assured Arturia's 2nd generation KeyStep is primed for integration into your existing rig.

What's new with Mk2?

With Arturia's Mk2 improvements onboard, KeyStep is more powerful than ever before. For starters, the controller's vaunted arpeggiator engine comes equipped with 16 adjustable operation modes, from simple cycled melodies to entirely experimental rhythmic forays. Likewise, the sequencer's newly added one-touch mutation tools, including splice/dice and tie/rest steps, pave the way toward entirely generative melodic possibilities, keeping your compositions creatively unpredictable while maintaining a professional sonic edge. Topped off with a brand-new OLED screen and push encoder control scheme, KeyStep and its versatile melodic tools are seamless to dial in, no matter where you decide to jam.

Arturia KeyStep Mk2 Features:

  • Arturia's flagship 32-key compact controller and sequencer with a bounty of 2nd-generation improvements
  • Velocity-sensitive 32-note slim key keyboard with aftertouch ensures maximum expressive control in any performance environment
  • Built-in polyphonic step sequencer and 16-mode arpeggiator engines promote boundless rhythmic and melodic playing potential

  • Capacitive-touch pitch and mod controls for smooth notational control
  • Easy-to-read OLED screen and push encoder provide seamless management of your device's operation
  • Slim, travel-friendly design makes for seamless travel and transport between gigs
  • Seamless rig integration via USB-C MIDI, MIDI DIN In/Out, CV/Gate Out, and Sync I/O connections

Reviews

A Worthy Sequel
definitely a nice build quality. the keys feel nice. the arp and sequencer are excellent. the mutate button is pretty cool.
Major Upgrade from my Original Keystep 32
This new MK II version is a major improvement over the original Keystep 32.
Here's why…..

OLED Display & Encoder: Clear visual feedback and fast, intuitive editing of parameters directly on the device, reducing reliance on Midi Center App.
Enhanced Sequencer: Now supports polyphonic steps, pattern chaining, and real-time transformations (Transpose, Double, etc.).
Creative Generative Tools: A new "Mutate" function instantly creates melodic/rhythmic variations, plus "Spice" and "Dice" for live randomization.
Expanded Arpeggiator: More modes, patterns, octave control, and the ability to turn any arpeggio into a sequence.
Improved Connectivity with USB-C, a power switch, dedicated Sustain/Expression pedal inputs, and an extra Mod CV output for modular synths.
Workflow Upgrades: "Arp-to-Seq" converts arpeggios to sequences, and chord modes from the KeyStep 37 are included.
Better Physical Controls: Velocity/aftertouch are adjustable on hardware; redesigned, back-lit plastic buttons feel modern.

Definitely worth upgrading to this MK II
Quality Control Issues not Typical with Arturia Products - On / Off Switch Failure on Second Use
I own many Arturia products including hardware and software synths and an audio interface, and have had no issues with their products in the past. Compared to other Arturia products, this is cheap plastic and does not feel sturdy. Worse yet, this cheapness extends to a part that MUST be robust or the controller won't continue to work properly. The on/off switch failed on only the second usage for me and cracked on the inside. I can hear part of it rolling around inside the keyboard and it will no longer power on. The thing is, almost no pressure was used on the switch to actuate it on or off, so the part must have already been cracked before I got it :( I'm going to return it and the design is bad enough that I won't replace it with the same model.
