A Top-notch Tube Mic
The Josephson Engineering C725 microphone provides a sensational balance between textured tube goodness and the clean, high-headroom nature of solid-state FET microphones. Instead of two FETs in cascode like most Josephson mics, this one features a cascode with one FET and one tube that work together. Two operating modes are on offer: Sun and Moon. Sun mode operates at full gain, giving you all the tube-infused warmth and richness you can handle. Meanwhile, Moon mode operates at a lower gain level, giving the signal a FET-style quality. This microphone houses the same dual-diaphragm capsule used for the C700 and C716 microphones. It provides five switchable polar patterns to handle any recording application under the sun. Finally, the C725 includes Josephson’s patented aluminum foam grille, which guards against plosives and internal reflections. Whether you’re using it on vocals or instruments, the C725 is up to the challenge.

Two modes
For the C725, Josephson Engineering chose to modify its normal cascode FET circuit topology. The lower FET in the cascode is the same specially selected low-noise FET as in other Josephson mics, while the upper FET in the circuit is replaced with an EF806S tube. With the power supply, you can choose between two modes: Sun and Moon. Sun mode operates at full gain, giving you the warm, rich detail afforded by classic tube microphones. Meanwhile, Moon mode reduces the sensitivity by 12dB, letting the clean, neutral-sounding FET section center stage. With its two switchable sonic characteristics, the C725 can sound like a tube or solid-state microphone — no questions asked.

Five polar patterns
The C725 is equipped with the same dual-diaphragm capsule found in the Josephson Engineering C700 and C716 microphones. Its power supply offers five polar patterns to choose from: omnidirectional, subcardioid, cardioid, hypercardioid, and figure-8. Together, the polar patterns give this microphone the flexibility needed to record any source in any studio environment. Whether you’re miking up a choir, a string quartet, or a cabinet, Sweetwater is confident that the C725 microphone’s multiple polar patterns can handle it.
Unique metal foam grille
Josephson Engineering outfits each C725 microphone with its patented metal foam grille. It’s built from an aluminum alloy that supplies robust projection for the capsule. Where standard basket-type housings require supporting structures and rings, the metal foam grille design is entirely self-supported. Because the metal foam requires no internal support, its highly open structure reduces reflections, acoustic resonances, and phase anomalies.

Josephson Engineering: mics for engineers in the know
Founded by David Josephson, Josephson Engineering has developed and produced high-quality microphones since 1989. Hailing from scenic Santa Cruz, California, the company prides itself on creating purpose-driven condenser microphones that absolutely excel in the studio environment. Though Josephson Engineering is far from boastful, reputable audio engineers laud the company’s microphones for their ability to deliver clean, high-headroom sound on almost any source imaginable. Whether you’re recording delicate sources or a wall of screaming cabs, there’s a Josephson Engineering microphone for you. Even better, Josephson Engineering meticulously designs and manufactures every microphone to last for decades.
