10-Slot 500 Series Rack with Per-slot Power Handling and Channel Linking

The Heritage Audio OST-10 v2.0 is a 500 Series chassis that accommodates up to 10 modules. The OST-10 v2.0 features On Slot technology, which leverages next-gen power electronics to handle module power requirements on a per-slot basis. In the OST-10 v2.0, each slot is spec’d with its own linear power-supply regulation stage, keeping each module isolated from the rest. Modules only share the metal enclosure. Sweetwater engineers agree that this is an effective method for eliminating common issues that can occur when sharing power between modules of different brands. An exciting feature of this second-generation model is the Link feature, which allows each channel to be linked to its next neighboring channel at the press of a rear-panel button — no patch cables required.

Don’t merely house your 500 Series modules — optimize their performance

500 Series racks are a fact of life in the modern pro studio. So it only makes sense to go for one that is durable, well-priced, and compatible with all your 500 Series modules. But more importantly, one that enables you to get the cleanest and best performance from every module you own. The OST-10 v2.0 checks all these boxes; it’s an ideal solution for housing 500 Series modules in an enclosure that allows them to achieve their peak sonic potential in a rugged, portable enclosure that won’t blow a hole in your budget.

Safer, cleaner, and more compatible

Many experienced engineers are aware of certain power-hungry Class A or vacuum tube based modules which could cause banks of 500 Series modules to “brown out” or cease to function, or that simply would simply refuse to work in many standard enclosures. The OST-10 v2.0 offers the widest range of compatibility with all 500 Series modules, ensuring both that demanding modules receive the power they need, and that modules in adjacent slots remain unaffected. You can think of the Heritage Audio OST-10 v2.0 as an upscale condo building, where each one of your 500 Series modules has its own luxury penthouse.

The power of On Slot technology

In the world of 500 Series racks, Heritage Audio’s On Slot technology (OST) sets the OST-10 v2.0 apart. Thanks to OST, the OST-10 v2.0 is able to deliver hefty current: up to 1.8A per rail, or 400mA per rail per slot, whatever is reached first. Maximum phantom power current is rated at 140mA. Each slot has its own red (+16V) and green (-16V) test LEDs located aside the slot connector for convenient power-status checking. With its heavy-gauge steel construction and classic RAF blue-gray livery, the OST-10 v2.0 features Heritage Audio’s typical military-grade build quality for years of unflagging professional duty.

Heritage Audio OST-10 v2.0 Features:

  • Features On Slot technology for per-slot power handling
  • Maximum rails current: 1.8A per rail, or 400mA per rail per slot, whatever is reached first
  • Link feature allows each channel to be linked to the next channel with a button press
  • 140mA maximum phantom power current

Reviews

Good 10 slot rack
I was going to write this thing an unfairly poor review because getting a pair of API 512cs into it turned into nuclear rocket science and the main reason I bought it was to accommodate a second one, but at the end of the day they safely fit and I can't say that about the last few 500 series racks I've bought. So if it can fit those bad boys, I do feel very confident saying any 500 series module under the sun will slide in there as long as you are careful. Other than the tight squeeze on certain modules, it is a good power supply. I am currently using up 9 slots of power-hungry units with no issue. The LEDs on the front are nice touch, not only aesthetically, but they will let you know if there's anything wrong with one of the individual slots, so MUCH less guess work/hairpulling if you did encounter a rare problem. I really like that the power switch is on the front and there is enough clearance to put another rackmount unit above or below. I felt that this was worth noting because my previous 500 series racks had these little legs on the bottom that basically made it impossible to put anything underneath other than a flat, blank panel. That is not an issue with this rack. Heritage audio makes some great stuff. Not to mention the paint color exactly matches that of my heritage audio successor so it looks good in the rack. Overall, if you are looking to upgrade to a 10 slot 500 series rack I think this is a very viable option.

Heritage Racks are awesome
I have not used this rack yet because it is unreleased, but I have used the previous version and it's great.

The only reason I can't give it 5 stars is because this is supposed to go in a rack, and I'm not sure how on earth I'm going to be able to access the linking feature on the fly. It still helps if you want your devices permanently linked, but I wish there has been a way to mount the switches on the front right. I guess I can still use the old patch bay, but this would have been kinda cool.

I wonder if they'll add this feature on the lunchboxes, which would really be helpful for those of us who are mobile and don't want cables hanging everywhere. Plus edge protectors to the lunchbox cases and some way to protect the edges of the front panels of our 500 series modules when in the lunch boxes.

Back to this device, I wish I could have given it 4.5 stars, but it was either 4 or 5.
