TAMA’s delivering its ninth Star Reserve snare in the form of this exquisite Solid Japanese Cedar drum. This iteration of the Star Reserve sees a return to a solid, single-piece shell, this time steam bent from 8mm of Japanese cedarwood and finely texturized through a traditional Japanese woodworking process called Uzukuri. On the interior, hand-cut cedar reinforcement rings ensure maximum structural and sonic integrity of the shell. The exterior comes ornamented with eight center-mounted, sleek, and low-mass star lugs in addition to a pair of 2.3mm Customized Brass Mighty Hoops. This wood and hardware combination, along with a 20-strand set of sensitive Starclassic Bell Brass snare wires, conveys a wonderfully rich tonality that’s backed by some impeccably bright response and power. A natural oil finish highlights the beauty of this Star Reserve’s cedar grain, and Sweetwater drum pros concur: this isn’t just boutique drum building — this is percussive art!

Linear-Drive throw off and butt plate
TAMA’s model MLS50 throw off prevents the "slap" of snare wires hitting the bottom head, allowing seamless transitions between tenored and active snare tones. The Linear-Drive system holds snare wires firmly and safely at a 30-degree angle, and it features a linear-motion strainer mechanism for precise snare tensioning. A matching butt plate completes the set.
