The Vision Behind Grell Audio
After more than 30 years of shaping the headphone industry, Axel Grell founded Grell Audio to pursue a simple goal: to create headphones that reproduce music as naturally as possible. Throughout his career, Axel has been responsible for some of the world’s most respected audiophile headphones and has continuously pushed the boundaries of acoustic engineering. Founded in 2020, Grell Audio represents the next chapter of that journey, combining decades of experience with a fresh approach to headphone design.

Designed Around Natural Hearing
Most headphones place their drivers directly beside the listener’s ears. The OAE2 takes a different approach. Through Front-sided Sound Field Modulation (FSFM), sound is projected from a position in front of the ear, allowing the listener’s natural ear geometry to contribute to the listening experience. The result is a more spacious, realistic, and speaker-like presentation that feels remarkably natural and immersive.
Engineering Meets Acoustics
Every component of the OAE2 open around-ear audiophile headphones has been carefully engineered to deliver accurate, natural sound reproduction. A wideband 40mm dynamic driver with a bio-cellulose diaphragm works together with a precision-manufactured stainless steel mesh from Germany and an innovative acoustic-damping architecture. This combination delivers exceptional detail, controlled bass performance, and a balanced tonal presentation across the entire frequency range.

Built for Lasting Comfort
Whether at a desk, at home listening for enjoyment, or in a working studio environment, Grell headphones offer hours of fatigue-free listening. This is thanks to ergonomic design features, including large velour pads that cradle the ears and a wide memory-foam headband for even pressure distribution.
Designed to Last
At Grell Audio, sustainability begins with longevity. The OAE2 has been developed with a modular architecture that allows components to be replaced or repaired when necessary. Combined with durable materials, environmentally conscious manufacturing practices, and plastic-free packaging, this approach helps extend product life while reducing unnecessary waste.

Research-based Development
Innovation at Grell Audio is driven by science as much as by listening. In collaboration with the Institute for Communication Technology (IKT) at Leibniz University Hannover, Grell actively researches how individual hearing characteristics influence sound perception. These findings help guide the development of new acoustic concepts and technologies designed to deliver a more natural listening experience.
A Family Business with a Global Vision
Although Grell Audio is relatively new to the high-end audio scene, it’s built on decades of experience, a shared passion for audio, and the close collaboration of a dedicated team. As a family business, Grell brings together different perspectives, skills, and generations with one common goal: to create headphones that challenge conventional thinking and offer a more natural way of experiencing music.
