Ampeg Classic Series

The name Ampeg is synonymous with bass amplification. In the late 1960s, the American company developed their proprietary Super Valve Technology (SVT), which they built into behemoth tube bass amp heads and speaker cabinets that would set the standard for professional bass amplification thereafter. The Ampeg Classic Series is all about the SVT, comprising a formidable lineup of amps — and even pedals — that deliver the SVT sound and performance bassists have aspired to for over a half-century.

From small club dates and studio sessions to huge stadium shows, there’s an Ampeg SVT Classic for you. The popular Ampeg SVT Micro VR 200-watt Classic head uses MOSFET technology to deliver the legendary SVT sound in a compact bass head that weighs in at under ten pounds. Got an arena gig lined up? Lucky you! Go for the Ampeg SVT-VR 300-watt Vintage Reissue head. This classic all-tube design generates the fearsome SVT roar in a tour-tough chassis with a curb weight of 85 pounds, so we hope you have a road crew! For medium-sized gigs, we’d recommend the Ampeg V-4B 100-watt tube bass head — another best-seller at Sweetwater. At about half the weight, it’s a good all-around option if you want a classic tube SVT with powerful onboard tone shaping and flexible speaker output options. Like its bigger sibling, the V-4B is equipped with an XLR DI output, so you can plug into the PA board for larger shows.

In the market for the ultimate bass practice amp? The Ampeg SVT Micro-CL Stack fits the bill. At 100 watts, this solid-state mini brute will pack your rehearsal loft with Ampeg’s punchy round sound. And when you need more volume, patch from the rear-panel line out into the PA. If you’re among the cadre of bass players who have ditched amps altogether, you can still get the SVT sound with the Ampeg Classic Analog Bass Preamp pedal. It’s like having a classic SVT amp that you can fit in the pocket of your gig bag! What’s more, if you use another brand of bass amp, the Classic Analog Bass Preamp puts the sound of classic Ampeg SVT amps right on your pedalboard.

So, there you have it. Whether your bass rig fits in your pocket or requires four roadies to load in, the Ampeg Classic Series delivers the definitive SVT sound today’s discerning bassists demand.
