How do I back up a ProTools Session with Toast?
.Finish your Session!
.On your Hard Drive you will find the Master ProTools Session Folder. This contains the ProTools Session file and the “Audio Files” Folder. This Audio Files Folder contains ALL of the Audio Files for your Session. You also may see a “Fades” folder.
.Simply launch Toast and make sure you have “Mac Files and Folders” selected as your CD Format.(Version 4.x) or “Data” (Version 5.x).
.Drag and drop the ProTools Master Session Folder (with all of its subfolders and files) into the big open window in Toast.
.Now Toast will report the size of this Data.If the Data size is bigger than the capacity of your CD Media (650-700Meg) you will need to split the contents of your “AudioFiles” folder into other folders and burn those folders to seperate discs.
.Now you have backed up the entire ProTools Session. The only time you will run into problems is if you recorded Audio to a location other than your Master Session Folder’s “Audio Files” Folder. You can check your “Disk Allocation” under the “Setups” menu in ProTools. This will show you each track and where the Audio file for each track resides on your computer. If you have Audio files in other places you will need to back those files up to!!
.Once you are sure you have backed up all the Data for your Session, you can delete the Original Session off of your Hard Drive.(You may want to make 2 BackUps!).When you want to bring the session back up,just put the CD in your Mac’s CDROM drive and copy the Master Session Folder back to your Hard Drive and go back to work!
