HDDA mic preamps capture detailed nuances

The TASCAM US-4x4 employs a High Definition Discrete Architecture (HDDA) mic preamp design that delivers audio with extremely low self noise to capture every detail of your musical performances. Featuring four of these microphone preamplifiers, the US-4x4 is ideal for solo singer-songwriters and small ensembles, or employ the phantom power to use condensers as room mics for recording a live jam session. Each channel also features a TRS jack, so you can easily track instruments alongside your microphones. And there are mic/line/instrument level switches on the front panel for channels 1 and 2, so you can easily record a guitar or bass direct.

Built with mobile recording in mind

At Sweetwater, our Sales Engineers put together recording solutions that work for you, and one of the things today's engineers and musicians need most is the ability to record wherever they want. The tough all-metal housing and reinforced ends make the US4X4 rugged enough to withstand hotel room recording sessions on the road. The sleek, angled design, keeps your levels in sight and offers easy access to gain and volume controls. It's small enough to fit in your laptop bag, but powerful enough to trust with your next masterpiece.

Includes DAW software options

The US-4x4 comes with Cakewalk's SONAR X3 LE and Ableton Live Lite 9. A feature-rich recording software for musicians using PC-based recording, SONAR X3 LE provides a cutting-edge music production studio, giving users what they need to get started creating music on Windows PCs. Ableton Live Lite 9 puts the power of on-the-fly recording, mixing, creating, and more into your hands. Use it in the studio to lay down drum tracks and then take your US-4x4 and Ableton to the show and build a song right in front of your fans.

Mastering Grade Interface For $

Really professional interface. Unexpectedly for this price! Midi is accurate. USB interface - don't need to buy a thunderbolt dock.Thank you, Tascam.

Nice interface.

I needed an audio/MIDI interface for an upcoming mobile recording session that was up-to-date with Mac OS X El Capitan and the US-4x4 came to the rescue. Very smooth sounding preamps, all the necessary connections and controls in a compact yet well built, reasonably priced unit. I'm very satisfied.

Great sound, drivers need some tweaking

If I was reviewing based on sound only, i'd give this a perfect rating. It sounds awesome. Absolutely a clean recording with no noise or artifacts. The reason i'm only giving it a 4 is due to a driver issue. There is a bug with it where every time you startup your computer you have to unplug and plug the USB back into your computer in order for it to recognize it again. If you leave your PC on all the time, this won't be an issue for you, but since I shut down at the end of everyday, it's just a little annoying task I have to do upon restarting the PC everyday. I'm sure it will be fixed in future driver/firmware releases, but as of writing this, it has not been. It's mainly just an annoyance rather than an actual issue that impedes recording.

Don't Assume those 4 Outputs are 1 per Channel

Everything about this is fine. However, I mistakenly assumed that those 4 outputs on the back could be configured to 1 per channel. You choices are MONITOR or PC out for 1-2 and 3-4. In my case we want to run into the interface, then 1:1 out into a mixer for live recording. Right now we're forced to hit the mixer first then dump everything into 1 channel on the TASCAM. Again, not a fault of the hardware at all... my assumption is the issue. Hoping to help others thinking the same thing.

Tascam US 4X4 I/O

I only had the US 4X4 for about two weeks as I upgraded to the US 16X08 when it became available. I was very satisfied but find the advanced software and available expansion afforded by the US 16X08 to be well worth the additional price. The only other concern that would make me stay with the US 4X4 would be the size of the unit. It is very small and light weight.
