The secret behind the big sound of the Kala U-Bass is almost as cool as its small, ultra-portable format. It comes from the combination of the right tonewoods and Kala's unique polyurethane strings. These lightweight, large-diameter string provide plenty of low frequency umph, which resonates with a deep, rich, and wooden quality that's both reminiscent of the coveted upright sound and colored with a uniquely musical U-Bass quality all of its own.

As an acoustic instrument, another major factor in the U-Bass's tone is the selection of tonewoods Kala chose. A mahogany body, complemented by a mahogany neck, a walnut fingerboard, and a walnut bridge add to the vibrance of this U-Bass, giving it a warm and slightly dark (but not muddy) fundamental tone. On top of that, they gave this U-Bass a solid spruce top, which adds a touch of extra midrange definition to your tone.
