Much More than a Filter Plugin
Polyverse calls this plugin a “powerful filter”, but Sweetwater thinks they’re being modest. Yes, Supermodal contains a Modal Filter and a state-variable filter (SVF), but it doesn’t end there. The Modal Filter has nine models with three variations each, totaling 27 modes which include wide ranges of phasers, flangers, and modeled resonators, as well as settings for dampening, decay, and controlling partials. The SVF works in parallel with the Modal Filter, easily shifting through low-pass, band-pass, and high-pass. There’s a Blend slider that makes crossfading between the two filters effortless, and both the Modal and SVF work in stereo so you can alter L and R signals individually or together. When you add in a comprehensive Modulation system and its capability to modulate seemingly every parameter inside Supermodal, the implications for sound design are powerful, indeed!

27 Modes – Way more possibilities
Multiple instruments, waveforms, objects, and more were precisely physically and mathematically modeled to create the Modal Filter. Nine models with three variations equal 27 modes that actually have hundreds of bandpass filters operating under the hood. With precise control over modal tails by using decay and dampening, and by adjusting partial settings to get rid of unwanted high or low frequencies, the Modal Filter lets you craft your sound into something more unique by imposing different resonance options.
Drive that signal even further
The state-variable filter (SVF) might seem familiar if you’ve worked with classic analog synths, as it uses a similar 24dB-per-octave slope. You can also increase the Drive function to fatten its signal, and boost its resonance to let it self-resonate. And, since the SVF works in parallel with the Modal Filter, you can seamlessly crossfade between the two - or mix them together - by using the Blend slider. By working the two filters in tandem, a single audio signal has limitless sound design potential.

What really pushes Supermodal over the top is its Modulation system. 6 modulation sources can be placed in 4 modulation slots, and these slots can then be cross-modulated… yeah, it’s insane.
