Developed at Abbey Road, Refined by Waves

The Waves Reel ADT plug-in brings you an authentic replication of the Artificial Double Tracking effect developed at Abbey Road studios for The Beatles. Reel ADT mimics the effect of sending an audio track to a separate tape machine, allowing you to adjust the time difference of the two tracks. This creates the effect of recording two takes with subtle timing differences. You can also coax a wide range of flanging, phasing, and tape saturation effects. It's a classic sound that's perfect for adding spice to modern recordings. Call Sweetwater to get the Waves Reel ADT plug-in today!

Waves Reel ADT Plug-in Features at a Glance:
  • Software emulation of the Artificial Double Tracking effect developed at Abbey Road Studios
  • Varispeed can be controlled manually via MIDI, or automatically via built-in LFO

Reviews

Let's talk Character
There are other "instant" double tracking plug-ins that do precisely that. This is more of a thickening, modulating time machine that imparts the much desired warmth and character of yesteryear. Of course it's great on vocals, but I'm finding myself always using it on bass guitar and quite a bit on guitar. Using it with BB Tubes and TG12345 gives you an old school tonal palette that's invaluable if you seek that analog world vibe. Brendan Murphy has been my gear guy since back when the Dead Sea wasn't even feeling bad yet.

Waves Abbey Road Reel ADT Plug-in
I purchased Waves Abbey Road Reel ADT Plug-in primarily for doubling vocals. It really does take a lot of time and work to double vocals and have them match up with timing and feel. As a musician, the only thing I may have in common with John Lennon, is that I don't want to take the time to double vocals. So when I saw the Waves plug-in, and the low cost, I went for it.
I've used the plug-in on some recently recorded lead vocals and have been pleased with the results. It's not exactly the same as doubling vocals the hard way, but it does a convincing job of emulating the old tape-machine techniques used at Abbey Road Studios in the mid 1960s and I love that stuff. It's pretty flexible too. There are a variety of presets that can be tweaked to your liking. I've also used it on some guitar parts and it really thickens it up in the mix. Still learning all that it can do, but definitely happy with the purchase.

Nice double
You can do alot more than doubling with this.
Pretty cool.
I was fascinated that John Lennon didn't like his voice and also was annoyed that he would have to sing it twice to get what he wanted. So the engineers at EMI came up with ADT using playback and record heads on their 4 tracks. I have only played with this pug in so far and It really is cool. I am looking forward to trying it for real on an upcoming project that I want a doubled voice effect. I am not great at doing it the usual way. This is a fun, usable plug in and I recommend it highly...
Waves ADT Plug In
My fav pre set is "2 Guitars Are better Than One", What "Abby Road" I think used to do, was have 2 different Tape machines tracking at the same time, then they could advance or slow down one track creating chorus like or double guitars, with this "plug in" you can use their pre sets or tailor your own really cool. Fans of "Jangle will love this product"

Since the early days of DAW software, Waves has been a dominating force in music and audio production. For those of us here at Sweetwater who've been recording since the industry switched over to computer-based studios, it's impossible to imagine sessions without L series Ultramaximizers, MaxxBass, and other staples. Since then, we've been impressed every time Waves has brought top producers such as Jack Joseph Puig and Chris Lord-Alge to Sweetwater to show off their next cutting-edge creations, and Waves is constantly adding new and innovative plug-ins to their catalog. And with cool new gear such as their SoundGrid series, Sweetwater engineers have discovered just how easy it is to use Waves plug-ins live.
