Excellent low end boom and thump for the kick drum. Fantastic rejection of other sounds. The moon mic adds a really full feeling to the kick drum. I'm paring it with other microphones, a Shure beta 91a inside the kick for batter, and either akg D112 or an audix d6 for the port. It might be overkill, but in the studio it feels nice to have blending options. I let the moon mic handle the lowest frequencies and it works great

This thing is incredible. I've had mine for many years. I recently compared it to a Neumann U47 FET clone mic. The Moon Mic was SO much better for the purpose of adding the lowest frequencies that I almost couldn't believe it. I have the chrome version. It's very well made and the DW stand is solid as a rock as long as you position a leg directly under the mic. And it's DW so the quality and design is as good as it gets. This is definitely a sleeper mic. It should be an industry standard. It sounds SO good. Blend with another kick drum mic or two of course.

The first time I used this mic on a bass drum all I could say is "Wow what a difference ". It does everything the advertisements and reviews say. With a large PA it adds an incredible amount of bottom end thump to the drum mix.

I"m using the Moon Mic with an Audix D6 just outside of a kickport on a 20" bass drum. Combined, they sound awesome. Very quick and easy to blend together. It is an expensive piece, but you get what you pay for. If your thinking about buying a Moon mic, just do it you won"t regret it.
