Crafting at the Convergence
One of the many ways in which Modbap Modular has distinguished themselves across the pantheon of Eurorack possibilities is their DJ- and groovebox-inspired approach to sound design. Meridian is no exception. This 14HP module houses two multimode filters that each feature four distinct filter modes, as well as two distinctive effects: a drive circuit and a phase shifter. Filters can be operated in series or parallel. And when the filters aren't being used for stereo output, they can function as a dual mono filter for two separate sources. Throw in extensive CV control and a suite of adjustments that include the master PrimeFreq parameter, and you’ve got a tone-crafting, texturizing tool that Sweetwater’s synthesists agree is a welcome breath of fresh, powerful air for Eurorack enthusiasts.

Smoother operator: filters, FX, and more
While each filter can be independently shaped across cutoff, resonance, and contour values, Meridian is at its best when the two filters are operated in tandem. This is where PrimeFreq makes its debut, simultaneously attenuating both filters to blend and mangle signals across any number of sonic configurations, refining your sound with sculpturesque distinction. Low-pass, band-pass, high-pass, and notch filters are toggled with color-coded backlit indicators via a one-button control, which similar operations used for choosing route and mix types: series or parallel, and dual-mono, or stereo, respectively. Choose from Ladder, OTA, Comb, and Vocal Formant filter types to precisely engineer your sound.

Imbue your sound with extra texture
Texturizing effects include the drive circuit and the phase shifter, each of which operate globally to encourage a unique manner of signal blending and filtering. In addition to the drive’s tone control, saturation and grit are controlled by Amount and Crush parameters, respectively. With the phase shifter, depth control is accompanied by Pan and Speed options, letting you move from subtle manipulation to stratosphere-smashing speed. You’ll also notice the Ping dynamic parameter, which functions like a low-pass gate and features its own input.
Vigorous voltages
Of course, most of Meridian's parameters can be controlled via CV. Modulating effects, in conjunction with filter cutoff frequencies and the PrimeFreq macro, will lead to the discovery of sublime sonic vistas and sprawling, undulating soundscapes. Furthermore, the clock input can be used for tempo synchronization, perfect for attenuating values that dovetail into live and performance-minded control with adjacent modules. You’ll also find your audio I/O here, where you can decide to run Meridian’s powerful circuitry as a dual-mono filter or immerse yourself in spacious stereo.

Modbap Modular: from SoCal with love
A portmanteau of “modular synthesis” and “boom-bap,” Modbap Modular seeks to bridge the oft-misunderstood gap between modular/electronic spaces, and the beatmaking/DJ foundations of hip-hop. Founder Corry Banks masterfully accomplishes this through his passion for the work and understanding of deep-rooted senses of culture, community, and creative experimentation that undergird both of these musical domains. His extensive education and work as a technologist allow Modbap to build and expand on the shared and parallel histories of synthesis, sampling, and beatmaking, thriving in both spaces without compromising identity or integrity.
