Not just for vocals
The Beyerdynamic M 88 often gets billed as a “vocal microphone.” Of course, it’s true that the M 88 definitely sounds amazing on vocals — after all, it’s been Phil Collins’s mic of choice for decades. However, Sweetwater studio engineers will be the first to tell you that the M 88 also sounds stellar on snare drums, kick drums, horns, and basically anything that could benefit from its wide frequency response, excellent off-axis rejection, high SPL handling, and super-sensitive transient response courtesy of its hostaphan diaphragm.
