You Get Two Great Ribbon Mic Voices Plus High SPL Handling!

Get dual-purpose performance from Shure's KSM313 ribbon microphone! One side of the KSM313 provides a brighter character that shines on your vocals, while the other side offers a rich, full sound that's ideal for your amplified instruments. Among its other premium components, this striking ribbon mic features Roswellite ribbon material, which is stronger than the standard foil used by conventional ribbon mics. The result? You get superior sound and great performance at high SPLs. Call your Sales Engineer today and find out how great you can sound, with a KSM313 mic!

Shure KSM313 Dual-voice Ribbon Microphone at a Glance:
  • What Roswellite can do for you
  • Premium construction
  • You'll love this mic's "split personality"

What Roswellite can do for you
If fear of damaging a ribbon mic's fragile ribbon element has made you hesitant about adding one to your locker, worry no more. Shure's KSM313 uses a stronger element made of Roswellite material, which has better "shape memory" than conventional materials. This means the KSM313 can withstand high SPLs without ill effects - and still give you the smooth ribbon-mic character you're looking for.

Premium construction
In addition to its Roswellite ribbon element, the KSM313 comes packed with premium components. Inside, for example, you'll find a double-shielded transformer, which gives you robust output while minimizing RF and magnetic interference. This is a must for modern recording situations. This hand-assembled mic includes high-quality machined steel, silver, gold, and aluminum materials throughout, and you can expect it to remain a mainstay in your studio for years to come.

You'll love this mic's "split personality"
While the difference between the KSM313's "bright" and "dark" voices isn't exactly of "Jeckyll and Hyde" proportions, you'll find that it does make this mic sound great on several different sources - without losing its essential character. Sing into the bright side, and you're treated to a clean, clear, and smooth sound with plenty of articulation. Turn the mic around to capture amplified instruments, with a full, natural sound.

Shure KSM313 Dual-voice Ribbon Microphone Features at a Glance:
  • Bi-directional polar pattern delivers premier audio with superior off-axis rejection
  • 1 side tuned to sound warm and full on amplifiers, the other side tuned to sound bright and flattering on vocals
  • Roswellite proprietary ribbon material has high tensile strength, toughness and shape memory for superior resilience at extreme SPLs
  • Custom-sourced components for superior presence, minimized signal loss and maximized output
  • 146dB SPL across 30Hz-15kHz frequency range ideal for capturing fast transients
  • Legendary Shure quality and superior construction
  • Hand-assembled machined steel, silver, gold and aluminum materials
  • Protective wood case included for storage
  • Sensitivity (at 1kHz, open circuit voltage): -54.5dBV/Pa (1.88 mV/Pa)

  • Connector: 3-pin professional audio (XLR) male
You'll love the way the Shure KSM313 dual-voice ribbon mic sounds on both vocals and instruments!

Reviews

Exceptional for long-form voice-over
The rear side of this mic is simply outstanding for voice-over, particularly long-form narration (audio books, e-learning, etc.). Warm, but clear, very low noise, awesome audio quality. I run it through my Grace Design M101 pre-amp into my RME Babyface Pro interface. It just sounds incredible, on both male and female speech, with no hiss or hum. It also doesn't have much of the sibilance that a lot of condenser mics pick up. Great for singing vocals. too. It's become my workhorse for longer VO projects and vocals. Highly recommended!

Sure KSM313 for voiceover
I am starting in narration and selected this mic because I wanted to get as much emotional detail in my recording, with the idea of using the rear side. I recently put a sample on GearSlutz forum asking if I could do any better for my voice with another mic, and I listed some other popular vocal mics in the same price range. They said it was a really good sound, so that confirms my theory. I do have to speak quite close, using a Grace M101 the gain is cranked up, but it's still got a very quiet noise floor.
Music background: new to audio narration
Perfect VO Mic
I was looking for the best ribbon for voice overs when I bought this. I do mostly audiobooks so the less sensitivity to mouth noise is a big plus with a ribbon. Saves hours in post.

The sound is fantastic (I use the back side). No one can believe I am adding no EQ, it is that warm. The raw file sounds like it has already been mastered.

Have not used anything else in months now. Blows away my Sennheiser 416.
Wow. Seriously.
This mic is special. I was looking for a mic that could excel on outside kick, guitar amps, loud vocalists, so naturally my impulse said something like a condenser with high SPL handling. The problem was, most condensers I tried were far too bright for guitar amps and loud vocals. I wanted more detail and less honk than a dynamic though. I assumed ribbons were out of the picture because of plosives on vocalists and heavy air movement from the kick. However, after reading about the Roswellite material that can withstand air blasts, I figured I'd give it a shot. MAN - this thing kills! So smooth, so versatile, totally durable. Doesn't flinch. Sounds amazing on all those things! Almost similar sound to a 67, actually. Not nearly as much low end as most ribbons (which is good, I usually had to roll that off anyway). Fits in the mix great!

Highly, highly recommended.

What Do Our In-house Gear Experts Think?
Sam Hillman
The Shure KSM313 is a true workhorse ribbon microphone. I recently won a recording competition using the KSM313 when tracking drums, aux percussion, electric guitar, dobro, upright bass, and vibraphone. It excelled at capturing the perfect combination of detail and vibe that only a ribbon mic can deliver.
