Big Stereo Sound in a Portable Keyboard Amp

The Roland KC-220 3-channel keyboard amplifier is your ideal mobile keyboard amplifier, complete with battery operation and full-range stereo sound. In fact, it's also a well-equipped portable PA with built-in chorus and reverb effects, an auxiliary input, and an XLR microphone input for vocals. With dual 6.5" woofers, two tweeters, and 30 watts of power, the KC-220 is ready for practice sessions, gigs, and even street performances. If you came to Sweetwater searching for a versatile keyboard amplifier, then you've found it in the Roland KC-220.

Deeper bass and better sonic balance

Roland's KC series amplifiers have been some of the most popular keyboard amps at Sweetwater for over a decade. This KC-220 represents the latest generation of the KC series, featuring a redesigned power amp and power supply. These not only provide more stable operation than ever, but they also help the KC-220 serve up deeper bass and a wider sonic range overall.

Custom speakers for enhanced detail and depth

To take advantage of its revamped power section, the KC-220 keyboard amp features a pair of custom-designed 6.5" speakers for exceptional fidelity. Combined with its built-in tweeters, the KC-220 delivers solid lows, prominent mids, and detailed highs. Synth bass patches thump with authority, while piano and organ sounds speak with clarity and detail. Whatever you plug into it, the KC-220 amplifies it with stellar sound quality.

Roland KC-220 Keyboard Amplifier Features:

  • Stereo keyboard amp for practice and performance
  • Runs on 8 AA batteries or via AC power (adapter included)
  • Highly efficient 30-watt stereo amplifier with 2 x 6.5" speakers and 2 tweeters
  • High-quality stereo digital effects built in: reverb, chorus, "wide" chorus, and EQ

Reviews

ROLAND KC-220 Amp Review
If you have ever played through a ROLAND JC SERIES AMP, then you will know what having a stereo amp can do, it takes the "clean" guitar signal and routes it through the left speaker, and then routes the modulation "chorus" out through the right speaker, resulting in that rich, full, wide, trademark Roland Stereo Chorus sound. Well this amp is just the same as the JC Series in that regard.

Some back story -
I have been looking for YEARS to find a home / studio "practice" guitar amp which has true "stereo" inputs and stereo speaker outputs like the Roland stereo chorus. Hearing the chorus IN STEREO doesn't compare to hearing a mere chorus pedal played in "MONO". Great, so what about all your OTHER multi effect units which were designed for stereo output? You need to buy TWO amps to hear it that way for them, which I almost did purchase for that reason.

It never occurred to me to look for a KEYBOARD AMPLIFIER in order to HAVE true stereo input and outputs in a practice amp. The Roland KC-200 has just that, in fact it has a total of FOUR stereo inputs in all. It has a total of THREE channel inputs with volume level controls - two designated stereo L/R input channels, and on the back panel TWO more stereo line inputs - one 3.5mm and one RCA stereo input. It's third channel is a mono MIC / LINE input, but 3 total designated channels with volume controls.

Other guitar amps may TWO channel inputs, and appear to be able to have "stereo input" because of that, but you will find that the MIC and GUITAR channels are EQ'd completely differently and so you can't GET a actual "stereo" mix running from a stereo effect output, that and even in these amps, it doesn't split the signal out IN stereo as divided even in the JC line. THIS amp has true stereo out to the stereo speakers because it has been designed for a KEYBOARD, and not guitar, which satisfies all my requirements :-)

The line level audio signal for running to a pa board is as quiet and clean as can be, no white noise, and so is the head phone output is just the same.

This amp also is already equipped for setting it up on a pa speaker stand, with the mounting plate in the base of the amp. It is perfect for a personal monitor on a short stand for when I do praise and worship at church.

This amp is also battery powered so it can be taken any where you want without having to be concerned with an AC supply being needed! It does deduce the output though from 30 watts down to 20 watts when on 12v instead of AC. I wish that they had incorporated the technology they used in the EX-50 CUBE which is their 50 watt battery powered street amp.

The only reason it doesn't rate a full 5 stars is the lack of volume - it is WONDERFUL for around the house, or to jam with a friend, but it definitely will NOT be heard in a band on stage without going through a PA system.

But for me - This amp checks off all the boxes!!

I use the amp with my MACBOOK, my 2i2 FOCUSRITE, and the FISHMAN "TRIPLE PLAY" midi controller, and the sounds from my all the virtual instruments in LOGIC PRO X, SAMPLETANK 4, and SOFTUBE, come through in rich and deep fullness of tone and clarity through this little keyboard amp!

.... just wish it had more volume, but for my purposes - OUTSTANDING!

A Great Portable Keyboard Amp
I didn't buy this for busking. I just wanted portable sound for my MODX8 instead of always being under headphones. For this purpose - this amp is GREAT! Yes, it could be considered loud in our house, but if you're looking for busking level volume, you'd likely be better suited with a Bose S1 Pro or something. Make no mistake - I love this amp. Lots of features, battery only option, compact etc.

This amp does what it was created to do exceptionally well, and with good sound quality. I only address the busking side because I'm sure some out there are considering an amp with battery only option. This amp can/could do it if it's smaller venues. If you're looking for a great amp for home use/studio or small get togethers then by all means - get this amp. I doubt you'd be disappointed. :)

Love this little amp
Not the most powerful amp you can have but definitely the most convenient with amazing sound and construction. This amp is perfect for unplugged practices, playing by a campfire, home use… the fact that it does not need to be plugged in is amazing and makes it so you can grab your keyboard (if it has a battery solution too like the Roland Juno DS) and play anywhere. The sound is great especially for such a small amp and it is quite light considering the solid construction.

Great for Home studio and other applications.
Just got the KC 220 and it makes my older model Yamaha Motiff sound fabulous. Sure it's probably not the amp for playing a large club or large stage and enable you to hear over all the other instruments on stage, But if your needing a system for the studio and want to stereo out into the studio mixer. It is perfect for that application. It will act like a monitor and still take a signal into the control room. I haven't even angled it on it's stand yet and it fills the room with a rich stereo sound. I hope this helps you with your decisions.

Great Amp Great Sound
I was up and running with this amp in no time. Perfect size for practicing in the living room. I have a few synths, drum pads, etc. plugged into it. At night, I'll make some pads so my wife is chill before falling asleep.

Simply put, modern electronic music wouldn't exist without Roland. Many of the electronic musicians here at Sweetwater cut our teeth on TR Rhythm machines and fondly remember programming our first TB-303s. We owe a good part of our careers to this amazing and innovative company. It's been fun to watch and grow right alongside Roland, as they've introduced wave after wave of revolutionary keyboards, digital pianos, and more. For example, Roland's V-Drum Kits continuously redefine the possibilities of electronic drums, beginning with SuperNATURAL technology to the latest Prismatic Sound Modeling. We're huge fans, and we'd love to tell you all about them. Whether you want a pocket-sized synth or a cutting-edge video mixer, if Roland makes it, then Sweetwater is 100% behind it.
