Roland’s Value-packed, Portable Performance Synth

Packed with features and ready to rock, Roland’s next-generation JUNO-D is a sleek synthesizer ideal for working keyboardists who need instant access to a vast library of professional-grade sounds in a lightweight, budget-friendly instrument. Powered by Roland’s flagship-class ZEN-Core engine, JUNO-D provides a massive arsenal of sounds for instant deployment — plus the expansion opportunities of Sound Packs and Wave Expansions on Roland Cloud. JUNO-D boasts a host of features designed to spark your creativity and optimize your performances, including a large color display, hands-on knobs and faders, an 8-track sequencer, a mic input, studio-quality effects, Phrase Pads, versatile connectivity, and much more. Additionally, with its class-compliant USB-C audio/MIDI interface and mobile battery support, JUNO-D integrates seamlessly into your live rig and DAW-based studio. Finally, the Roland JUNO-D is available in three different models to suit your keyboard preferences.

Massive, customizable soundset

If you’re like the keyboardists here at Sweetwater, then you love having tons of great sounds at your disposal. And because it’s loaded with over 3,800 pro-level voices — including acoustic and electric pianos, vintage and modern synths, organs, orchestral instruments, world sounds, and more — JUNO-D delivers. By importing WAV samples, you can re-create particular sounds or mix them up with unique textures and sound effects. With the freedom to combine samples with onboard ZEN-Core sounds and hone your sound designs with filters, envelopes, LFOs, and effects, you can create a custom JUNO-D library that sounds like no one else’s. But having access to high-quality sounds isn’t worth much without the smooth playability and intuitive controls necessary to access them effortlessly in the heat of a gig.

Maximum creative control

JUNO-D puts you in complete creative control. Renowned for the quality of its keyboards, Roland has spec’d JUNO-D6 and JUNO-D7, respectively, with its silky 61- and 76-note synth-action keybeds. For serious pianists, the JUNO-D8 rocks Roland’s acclaimed PHA-4 Ivory Feel 88-note hammer-action keyboard. All models include an ergonomic pitch bend/mod lever for added expression. And all three have an easy-to-use panel layout equipped with a bevy of knobs and sliders that provides the immediacy of real-time, hands-on sound sculpting and mixing via JUNO’s onboard 8-track sequencer. JUNO-D’s dedicated selection buttons give you direct access to its 16 patch categories; Dual, Split, and Super Layer functionality makes it easy to combine sounds and assign parts to your left or right hand. Store your custom sounds in Favorites for instant recall for every song on your set list.

Capture your idea with the 8-track sequencer

With the Roland JUNO-D, you’ll never have to worry about losing a musical idea. Use JUNO-D’s Scenes as a sketch pad to arrange sounds for playback, and then generate instant backing tracks with its 8-track sequencer and TR-REC step input and real-time recording functions. The sequencer’s intuitive controls and continuous operation enhance your creative flow, making it quick and easy to build up full arrangements. The JUNO-D’s sequencer is also useful during live performances for on-the-fly looping and playing prepared backing tracks.

Fun with Phrase Pads

JUNO-D’s eight Phrase Pads allow you to juice your performances with samples and music files to shape arrangements on the fly. You can load up just about anything, including one-shot samples, drum hits, vocals, sound effects, loops, and complete music tracks. Then, trigger and mute them with a touch of your finger. Deploy JUNO-D’s arpeggiator and chord memory to open up even more possibilities. With JUNO-D, the sky’s the limit!

Versatile connectivity

JUNO-D is equipped with balanced stereo outputs to connect with your audio interface, studio console, keyboard amp, or PA system, plus a headphone jack for late-night woodshedding sessions without disturbing others. You can also play tracks from your USB-C-equipped smartphone, tablet, or computer or a flash drive plugged into the JUNO-D’s dedicated USB memory port.

Gig-ready — anytime, anywhere

With its rugged, lightweight chassis, JUNO-D is ideal for gigging keyboardists who need easy load-in and quick setup in all kinds of venues. Powered by AC or a standard USB-C mobile battery, JUNO-D is the ultimate grab-and-go synth for club dates, studio sessions, livestreaming, or busking in the park. Plug a microphone into the onboard mic input to add vocals to your performances and polish them with studio-grade reverb, compression, EQ, and noise suppression, plus vocoder and auto-pitch effects. At home, in the studio, or on the road, JUNO-D is your all-in-one performance synth!

Reviews

Simply Awesome
I use this in a singer/songwriter lounge act and it's perfect. The stock piano tones are great and the ability to download even more off Roland's site makes the options endless. Board feels great as well. Could not be happier with this purchase.
Is it a synthesizer, you Decide?
Five star. My review of the Roland Juno D8, 88 key synthesizer is that it's not really a synthesizer. Sure it does synthesize some things. But most of it is a recording of an instrument such as a piano. Whereas the Moog synthesizer of yesterday actually did synthesize the notes being played, this also means that you don't have choices. The Moog synthesizer is based on frequency synthesization.

So what does it mean?

Well, with the Roland synthesizer you get a lot of choices of instruments that you can play. Kind of like a kid in a candy store, you can have 30 Grand Pianos at your fingertips. Yes but it means that when played you're going to get the harmonics of the wooden case as well as nearby strings receiving vibration from the string you played.

Would this be any different then playing an actual grand piano. Yes and no, because you have no control on where you are hearing the sound. The sounds are recorded with an open lid and a nearby pick up or mike. I would assume a microphone not an electronic pickup. Nevertheless you're playing the grand piano from the front but hearing it at the back and the harmonics are those of individual notes. Not of multiple notes rising and falling as would be from an actual performance. So it's not the same, only if you're pecking individual keys. How bad is this? Well overall if too many of these machines are sold, composing music will never be the same.

So really it's you decide. In closing, I think there's never going to be a substitute for a real instrument.

Awesome Keyboard
I was reluctant to pull the trigger on this board because of the price. I couldn't imagine it being more than an entry level keyboard with a few bells and whistles.

I was wrong!! This has all of the features of my rd700sx and rd2000 in a lighter, easier to use interface. After a little bit of pre-gig configuration I can easily make on the fly adjustments during live play and the sounds ar amazing!

The feel of the keys on this D8 are exactly like the more expensive boards. The tone banks include all of the tones in any board I've played. Plus, I can modify the tones however I want to get the exact sound I want.

Soooo glad I made this purchase!!
Juno D8
Excellent buy with a great deal. The keys feel perfect and it has so many sounds. I was able to create and sounds quickly. I've been wanting this forever. Glad I got the newest model.

Love this keyboard!
I've had this a few years and have had no problems at all! Love the sounds and the touch. I love that my mic plugs in, and gives me an extra channel on the mixer.
Music background: Classically trained pianist, singer and employed worship leader.

Simply put, modern electronic music wouldn't exist without Roland. Many of the electronic musicians here at Sweetwater cut our teeth on TR Rhythm machines and fondly remember programming our first TB-303s. We owe a good part of our careers to this amazing and innovative company. It's been fun to watch and grow right alongside Roland, as they've introduced wave after wave of revolutionary keyboards, digital pianos, and more. For example, Roland's V-Drum Kits continuously redefine the possibilities of electronic drums, beginning with SuperNATURAL technology to the latest Prismatic Sound Modeling. We're huge fans, and we'd love to tell you all about them. Whether you want a pocket-sized synth or a cutting-edge video mixer, if Roland makes it, then Sweetwater is 100% behind it.
