The Tone That Defined Heavy Metal

Sweetwater's guitar players agree — nothing embodies the essence of Marshall's legendary tone more than the JCM800 2203X guitar amplifier head. With just one channel, a 3-band EQ for tone shaping, and 100 watts of power, you've got everything you need to create classic tones from crunchy blues to screaming leads and beyond. In this version of the iconic amplifier, Marshall added a series effects loop with true bypass operation, perfect for gigging musicians with lots of pedals. So step up to the professional's choice for outrageous Marshall tone — the JCM800 2203X guitar amplifier head.

The sound of rock

Plug your favorite guitar into the all-tube, 100-watt JCM800 2203X, hit a chord, and hold on — that tingling behind your eyeballs means you've tapped into the tone that shaped modern rock. The JCM800 really earned its reputation in the late '70s and early '80s in stadiums worldwide. When people talk about the Marshall tone, there's a good chance they're describing a JCM800 2203X plugged into a full stack, completely cranked. It's wild, unruly, and certainly not appropriate for late-night band practices, but it's 100% rock 'n' roll.

Series effects loop

Consider yourself lucky, because this JCM800 2203X sports a feature not found on the original JCM800: a series effects loop! And thanks to true bypass operation, your slew of pedals won't color the tone of the JCM800 2203X one bit.

JCM800, the professional rocker's choice

So, who loves the Marshall JCM800 2203X? More guitarists than we could ever name, and some of the most famous guitarists ever would be on the list. Angus Young of AC/DC, Kerry King from Slayer, and Zakk Wylde are just a few who chose the JCM800 2203X for its tonal tenacity. If you're looking for an amp for clean tones, look elsewhere, but if you want maximum tonal aggression, plug into the JCM800 2203X.

Marshall JCM800 2203X Features:

  • Possibly the most iconic and most-played guitar amplifier since the late '70s
  • 1-channel operation with 3-band EQ, a simple design that makes it easy to dial in great tones
  • Incredibly powerful at 100W, not an amp that's made to be played quietly
  • Series FX loop lets you switch pedals in and out, with true bypass operation for sonic transparency
  • Birch-ply construction is incredibly strong and ready for life on the road

Dream Amp
This amp is everything i thought itd be and then some, dream amp for sure, making sure im buried with it
JCM800 2203
Great Sounding Amp! Very similar to the 1959 Plexi but has a master volume to give you that great Marahall Bite at lower volume.
A Fantastic Amp!
I had a JCM 800 2203 back in the early 8o's when they first came out and loved it. Unfortunately, I sold it in the late 80's. After putting in an order with my sales Rep Joe Perrone at Sweetwater (one of the best sales reps they have), I waited a year for Marshall to start sending some amps over the pond. I was blown away when I finally got the amp. This amp just sounds amazing, whether playing my Les Paul or my Strat through it, put a Tube screamer, Soul Food, or a Whampler Deluxe in front of this beauty and you'll never want to turn it off. I split my Senrty noise gate and from it, run my time based effects to the FX loop, and my Wha, OD and Distortion pedals through the front end and it is Heaven. I have to use a Tone King Iron Man II on it when practicing at home and even attenuated, it still sings!
Thank you Joe Perrone and Sweetwater!!
Awesome!
Truly amazing amp! Easy to dial in a tone, wide range of gain, huge solid power- much brighter than my DSL- LOVE IT!!
RAINING TONE!!!!!!
This is my first 800. This is the loudest amp I've ever owned or plugged into to. Jeff Weinstein made an attempt to warn me but i paid no mind to the hype. His exact words were "this ain't no toy homie!!" As soon as it arrived, i wasted no time plugging in and instantly FELT it. There was that unmistakable 80's thrash tone. After settling on a boost for it, there was no question why all my favorite records as a kid sounded the way they did. I understand why the 2203 holds the historical significance it does and why it has laid the groundwork for all things heavy. It's timeless. Thank you Jeff and all at Sweetwater.
Music background: Technical Death Metal

There are countless "British"-style guitar amplifiers out there, but take it from the lifelong guitarists and tone connoisseurs at Sweetwater, when it comes to Marshall tone, there's nothing like the real thing. We've played them all, from vintage JTM45s and the ultra-cool Plexi reissue to modern handmade masterpieces such as the JVM410. There isn't a model among them we can't recommend with total confidence, and that includes their more affordable models too, like MG, DSL, and Code series amps. Thanks to our tight relationship with Marshall, Sweetwater's always on the cutting edge of their latest designs, custom models, and limited-edition gems. If you want iconic tone from across the pond, you want Marshall, and your Sweetwater Sales Engineer will help you find the perfect one.
