Work With Your Favorite Amp in New Ways

Wow - the Radial Headload guitar amp load box is an incredibly powerful tool for any guitarist performing on stage or recording in the studio. The Headload can act as a power attenuator, allowing you to play your high-powered tube amp with cranked-amp tone at lower volume levels - perfect for keeping stage volume down. It also has a built-in JDX direct box and six-position voicing switch for direct amp/cabinet simulation. And with a Phazer phase-alignment tool, it's easy to create rock-solid tones when blending a mic'd signal with the direct output signal of the Radial Headload.

Radial Headload Guitar Amp Load Box at a Glance:
  • Complete control over your amplifier's wattage
  • JDX direct box for outstanding direct tone
  • Phazer phase alignment tool is invaluable in the studio
Complete control over your amplifier's wattage

Plug your favorite amplifier into the Radial Headload, and you'll be able to vary its wattage from full-on right down to 0W. Everywhere in between, you'll hear the full tone of your cranked guitar amp at lower volume levels. Gigging musicians at Sweetwater know that reducing stage volume is one of the most significant things you can do to clean up your band's live sound, and the Radial Headload is the perfect tool to accomplish that.

JDX direct box for outstanding direct tone

Built right into the Headload is a Radial JDX direct box with EQ, high cut filter, and two-band EQ for stellar direct tone. Even better, you've got a six-position voicing switch that completes your amp's tone with a range of simulated cabinets. When used in conjunction with the 0W power setting, you can inject all the tone of your amplifier into the sound system or recording interface without even needing a speaker cabinet and microphone.

Phazer phase alignment tool is invaluable in the studio

Recording engineers at Sweetwater know that carefully layered guitars can make a recording sound huge. We also know that keeping those tracks in phase alignment is imperative. The Phazer built into the Headload makes all that easy and saves you time. Phazer helps you align the JDX direct output signal with the signal you're picking up from your microphone. Just turn the shift knob, use your ears, and you'll hear the direct signal and the mic signal lock together. You'll get a great tone fast, and your mix will come together much better.

Radial Headload Guitar Amp Load Box Features:
  • Load box, direct box, speaker simulator, and phase aligner for electric guitar amplifiers
  • Adjust the wattage of your amplifier, for cranked-amp tones at lower volume levels
  • JDX direct box with speaker simulation and 2-band EQ for outstanding direct tones
  • Phazer phase-alignment tool helps align the direct tone with a microphone signal
  • Keep your stage volume down while sending the PA a high-quality direct signal
The Radial Headload - a smart amplifier tool for any guitarist!

For those who like big amps and they cannot lie

First of all, anything put out by Radial is usually going to a solid product. I've had direct boxes and also have their reamp box, but when I heard they made an attenuator/loadbox/cab sim I knew I had to have it. I play a 100 watt early 70s Marshall and no matter what other amps, attenuators, and plugins I've tried, there's nothing like playing a cranked 100 watt amp! There may not be such a thing as a transparent attenuator, but the Headload is as close as I've gotten. And I've tried and owned many attenuators out there. The variable line out is also essential. I use it with a Two Notes Torpedo C.A.B. for loading impulse responses of speaker cabs. So I can just go to a gig or a recording session with my amp head, the Headload, the Torpedo C.A.B. and basically have my tone ready to go. No speaker cabinet needed. Pre and post EQ, phazer shift, headphone jack, are all just icing on the cake. The unit is built sturdy and typical of Radial quality. Radial customer service is also top notch. They really go above and beyond. I had to send in my Headload a few months after my purchase (due to user error, not anything related to Radial), and their Tech Support (Paul Blake and Ryan Juchnowski) were fantastic. This unit will hopefully serve me for years to come. This is an essential part of my studio and really one of the best buys I've made in the last few years. PROS: 1. Built like a tank 2. Attenuator does not alter tone in any significant way 3. Built in JDX direct box makes unit even more versatile 4. EQ, phase alignment and headphone jack CONS: 1. You are stuck with one ohm setting--I have the 8 ohm unit and can only run 8 ohm loads 2. Built in fan is not as quiet as I'd like

Radial Headload

Instead of always using guitar plug-ins...I decided to hook up my Fender amp to the Radial Headload. I recorded a few guitar tracks into Logic X ...and let me tell you the tone was genuine Fender! Plug-ins are great ...but I prefer the sound the Radial Headload produces. I am looking forward to connecting the unit to a house system.

Tube Amp Swiss Army Knife

Ridiculous value in this thing. I'm using it to record a clean 100W fender tube twin amp at full power and also use it with my 50W Marshall JVM in order to crank the master past half and get the tubes to SCREAM like never before (without blowing out my ears). Then you add in a JDX direct box which sounds incredible with the 6 different speaker voicings and EQ controls. Top that off with the phazer portion which lets you adjust the phase when mixing with other mics/sourcesv (awesome for stereo!). This thing is really like 3 awesome products in one!

Take a Load off!

I have used load boxes before, but only between the amp and speaker. I was looking for a load box that offered more and the Radial Headload delivered in a well made easy to use format. With the Headload you can also choose the off position and use head phones and includes different voicing options and cab simulation. What also drew me to this is the ability to mic a cab in addition to the balanced outputs into the DAW. This unit offers both Pre and Post outputs for increased flexibility. It would have been nice if it included rack ears, but they are available as an option. If you have a master volume head but need need to control the volume for bedroom level practice, recording or even at a gig, this is a great choice. It helped me fall in love with my Marshall plexi amps again! Thanks Sweetwater!!
