An Upgrade to the Best-selling Yamaha FG730

There's even more to love about this FG830 acoustic guitar, Yamaha's recent installment in their hugely popular FG series. Back is the comfortable dreadnought body style and solid spruce top that players loved in the FG730, but new scalloped bracing gives this acoustic an even bigger low end and better projection for live and recording applications. The body's back and sides are made from rosewood to give the FG830 its powerful tone and warmth. And the satin-finished slim neck with rounded fret edges gives the Yamaha FG830 smooth playability.

A direct upgrade to the Yamaha FG730

The Yamaha FG730 rocked the guitar-making world with its craftsmanship and smart use of tonewoods in an affordable package. The FG830 takes this design several steps further with scalloped bracing for a punchier tone with better stage projection. And it also boasts a slimmer, more comfortable tapered neck with gently rounded fingerboard edges. Sweetwater acoustic players have been fans of the Yamaha FG series since the beginning and consider it one of the better values on the market.

Classic tonewood complement

New scalloped bracing makes the FG830 sound even fatter and louder. This gives the solid spruce top - a feature normally reserved for higher-end instruments - an expressive dynamic range that is even across the frequency range. And its ideal stiffness-to-weight ratio gives it plenty of power for full chords, punchy single-note playing, and riffing that never gets muddy. The rosewood back and sides give the FG830 its low-end power. You'll be able to punch through acoustic mixes with plenty of articulation and detail.

Yamaha FG: the best-selling acoustic guitar series in the world

It's not hard to see why Yamaha's FG series is a world best seller. They were the first to offer full-sized dreadnought bodies, professional-grade tonewoods, and fast-playing necks on instruments that were affordable for beginners and pros alike. If you're just learning to play, you'll enjoy the comfort of the neck and body, the low string action, and the full sound. Seasoned players who need a quality backup will love the detail of tone, the acoustic power, and how effortlessly the guitar plays.

Yamaha FG830 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar Features:
  • A value acoustic with pro looks and features
  • The newest installment in the best-selling Yamaha FG series

A Great Guitar

The FG830 is a really nice guitar. First of all it looks good. Craftsmanship is good and the finish is flawless. Very comfortable neck. The sound is great--good volume, excellent deep tone--sounds good with or without a pick.Couple all of that with Swetwater's excellent service and fast shipping. Guitar was playable right out of the box, only required a minor tuning touch. If you're thinking about this one, do not hesitate. It is a fine instrument.
Music background: Played several years in high school and college and picked it up again after 40 years.

Now my favorite acoustic guitar

Bought a Martin D1R in '98 which has been my No.1 guitar ever since, and I own at least a dozen acoustics. I have bought and resold three FG730 guitars and the people love them. I bought the FG830 a few months ago to resell to one of my beginner players, but I only played it 2 or 3 times when I decided this is a KEEPER - it is not for sale. This guitar almost plays by itself - action is great and the sound is WOW. This is now my favorite acoustic - I have played it a lot for 4 months with the original strings and others have asked me if I just put on new strings - it still sounds that good. Now I have to save up for an LR Baggs Lyric pickup for amplified playing.
Music background: Playing guitar for 40+ years. Manage a Country band, play at several open mic jams and bluegrass festivals.

Yamaha FG830

Yep 5 stars. Ordered of a Wednesday eve and was playing Saturday morning. For my purposes (at home musician) this guitar is perfect. Arrived tuned and in flawless condition with a very good action(thanks Chandler C. and E.B). Chords ring out with good sustain and there is good single note definition while fingerpicking. I am very pleased with this guitar. This is my first purchase from Sweetwater and I have been impressed with the whole process. Visually select the guitar that appeals to YOU, fast shipping, personalized service (thank you Ryan W.), what's not to like?

Classic style high quality, non-electric full size acoustic with a range of beautiful tones way beyond what anyone would expect at this price ! I have 4 other acoustics and when amplification is not necessary, this is my favorite already !! Love this axe !!
