A Stage and Studio Performer with Amazing Looks to Match!

Mesa/Boogie's Express 5:50 Combo Custom 2-channel tube amplifier goes beyond what you'd expect from even a feature-laden Boogie amp! This special edition of Boogie's compact Express 5:50 Combo turns into a completely different beast with the flip of a switch. You can actually choose between a 50-watt Class A/B power section and a Class A 5-watt power section! This flexibility makes the 1 x 12" Express 5:50 Combo Custom perfect for both loud live work and small amp recording! Of course, as a Mesa/Boogie, this amp comes loaded with tons of great features, a huge range of tones, and amazingly distinctive looks. Get onboard the Express 5:50 Combo Custom and hang on!

Wouldn't it be great if you could get that rich small amp tone you get in the studio, onstage? Thanks to Mesa/Boogie, you can! The Express 5:50 Combo Custom features four inspiring modes and two completely different power configurations, spread across two fully independent channels. Are you a tonal traditionalist? Select clean and blues for your two footswitchable sounds. If you're addicted to gain, choose crunch and burn. Then, stand back as the well-mannered soul of Dr. Jekyll morphs into the maniacal Mr. Hyde, the hardcore beast. Most important is the classic authenticity of all these iconic tones. No matter what your stylistic destination, the Express 5:50 Combo Custom will take you there - fast.

Up front, that number 5 indicates the low-power, single-ended magic of pure Class A. The 25 and the 50 refer to the rated push-pull (Class A/B) output. Together, these make up Duo-Class, Mesa/Boogie's newly patented power circuit. It's the first to offer both single-ended and push-pull configurations in the same amplifier.

Each channel is further equipped with its own contour depth control for added shaping that's both assignable and footswitchable. Used subtly, contour adds a halo of depth and chime to gleaming clean sounds. Higher contour settings, especially in crunch and burn, take you into recto turf, which is tight, huge, and menacing. Don't be fooled by the compact size of these combos; they're capable of the kind of volume that can keep up with a live band while providing the tonality, nuance, and flexibility you need in the studio.

4 Amplifiers Later....

This is the first Mesa amplifier I have ever played or owned. I bought it strictly based on Mesa's reputation and some YouTube videos. I own 2 Marshalls (a DSL40C and a TSL100), and an AC30 (which I love dearly), but this Mesa tops them all. From beautiful cleans to smooth high gains, and soulful crunches, the 5:50 does it all, quietly (by that I mean very little extraneous noise), and powerfully (5/25/50 watts).I can play chicken pickin' country to ultra high gain on this amp and it sounds GREAT.But in between, lies blues and classic rock tones that I can not coax out of ANY of my other amplifiers. The Express 5:50+, is smooth, sleek, and incredibly well made (in the USA, thank you)Call Ken Davis for great advice and awesome customer service. Sweetwater is an awesome midwestern company that really cares about its customers, Ill be back for more Mesa/Boogie amplifiers in the future!!! (Soon as the wife allows it...)

Adios to half of my pedals!

Could be called the Mark V Light. Amazing tonal range. Took my Blues Driver, Tube Screamer, and Holy Grail reverb pedals off the board. I don't have much use for them anymore. Never used the digital delay or chorus pedal much so they're gone too. All I have left is a Keeley compressor, Small Stone phase shifter, volume pedal, and wah. I could not be happier with the amp. Switchable from 5 to 25 to 50 watts. At home I rarely need to use more than the 5 watt setting and it sounds glassy chimy buttery silky crunchy angry tearful get the picture. Spend a little time (or allot!) in front of the amp fiddling with knobs and you can get the sound you want from the Express Plus. Need power and volume? Switch to 25 watt or 50 watt setting and you're good to go. I've parted with allot of dough looking for my sounds. I've found them with this beautiful little combo. All of my other guitar amps have been sold off with the exception of my AC15. Mental note: keep the reverb pedal for use on the AC15. Cheers!

Just picked this up

So, have been eyeing this baby for awhile. Loved the aesthetic in the photo with the exception of the black handle. I kept asking myself why didn't Mesa put a handle on this baby that matches the corner patches. I had even considered some third party handles as aftermarket add ons. So I went ahead and purchased. When I opened the box yesterday, the first thing that met my eye was a fabulous leather handle that matches the corner leather patches. Stellar! Totally completes the look. Home run!!! So, I took it to practice last night on its maiden voyage and I was ecstatic about the sound straight out of the box. First time I'd ever plugged it in without making any tonal adjustments. I could easily footswitch two distinctive sounds and reverb and contour (tonal boost??). I'm very pleased. I'll return in six months and let you know how she's playing long term. But if you're wondering about this amp, wonder no more. The picture doesn't do it justice.Black handle gone; tan leather matching handle in!!!

Amp Search Finally Over

I finally got the amp that matches the tone inside my head! It's an absolutely stunning sounding amp. No need for stompboxes!!! It's well built and looks great. First Mesa for me--I'm converted forever!!!

As promised...

I said I would give this amp a more long-term rating once I had broken it in (see my first day comments elsewhere in these reviews). First of all, no hissing on the clean channel; some on the overdrive channel but then that goes with the high-gain territory. I gig with this amp mostly in the 5 watt setting (it's loud and that with another guitarist in the band). I've switched mid-gig a couple of times to the 50 watt setting on that moved the earth. I love the tones this amp can can generate -- clean, fat (bluesy), dirty, fuzzy... to name my tastes. The reverb is VERY tasty. I really like the contour knob (tonal boost). You can get just enough extra during a solo to place you in that tonal sweet spot. My only "dislike", and this is a nitpick, is the foot pedal. The foot pedal is great and gives the needed control over the various sounds. But the connection that plugs into the foot pedal is easily jarred loose. I'd rather it was hard wired into the box, I think. Damn fine amp!!! Definitely recommend
