Top-shelf tonewoods deliver superior sound
ESP wasn’t fooling around when they built the Eclipse Custom. They started with a body built from Honduras mahogany. The warmth and resonance of mahogany are at the center of some of the most legendary rock guitar tones of all time. But ESP didn’t stop there. They topped the mahogany with maple, prized for its bite and sustain. The result is an incredibly thick tone with a bold, edgy character. This guitar’s Honduras mahogany neck is topped with an ebony fingerboard, which culminates in a comfortable-playing guitar with plenty of snap.
Audacious tonal tenacity from EMG JH signature humbucking pickups
James Hetfield requested a set of sleek-looking active pickups from EMG. He wanted his pickups to have the clarity and punch of passive pickups while still retaining the classic EMG character, and they delivered with the JH Het Set you’ll find on the Eclipse Custom. The neck pickup uses ceramic pole pieces for a fuller attack, higher output, and a beefier low end. The bridge pickup uses steel pole pieces for a tighter attack and cleaner lows.
