Competition Grand SK-EX Rendering and Virtual Technician
The CA401 features Kawai’s new Competition Grand SK-EX, which is specially recorded from the pianist’s perspective for a stunningly realistic playing experience. Advanced 88-key sampling allows for smoother transitions across the keyboard, more natural bass sounds, and a stronger duplex scale presence. The result is acoustic piano realism that is unprecedented in a digital piano. One of the major advantages of digital pianos, aside from the fact that they don’t require regular maintenance or tuning, is the flexibility they offer to customize settings. To that end, Kawai’s Virtual Technician function gives you access to adjustable parameters that facilitate advanced tonal adjustments similar to the way professional piano technicians expertly tune and voice acoustic pianos.
Grand Feel Compact keybed for authentic feel and response
Kawai developed their Grand Feel Compact action used in the CA401 to capture the distinctive feel of an acoustic grand piano. With an innovative triple sensor key detection that provides consistent upward/downward motion, this action gives you a natural, smooth piano-playing experience. Just as acoustic piano hammers are heavier in the bass and get lighter as you move up toward the treble end of the keyboard, the Grand Feel Compact action uses different hammer weights that are graded for each playing range. This fastidious attention to detail gives you maximum stability when playing fortissimo passages while giving you the delicate pianissimo control you need.
Progressive Harmonic Imaging delivers stunning grand piano sound
Sit down at the Kawai CA401 and play. The stunning piano sound you hear is none other than the meticulously sampled sound of a handcrafted Kawai concert grand piano, with all 88 keys painstakingly recorded and faithfully reproduced using Kawai’s Progressive Harmonic Imaging technology. This proprietary process accurately re-creates the immense dynamic range of the grand piano, giving you a truly impressive measure of expressiveness, from ppp to fff. If this were the only sound onboard the CA401, it would be a fabulous value, but there’s a total of 19 amazing sounds, including orchestral strings, electric pianos, organs, vibes, harpsichord, choir, and more.
